puoi usare entrambe le architetture, i386 se non ti interessa sfruttare i 64 bit, amd64 se li vuoi sfruttare...

Sì reinstalla pure quelli! al lavoro faccio girare skype per linux a 32 bit senza problemi! Inoltre gira anche internet explorer a 32 bit su wine.
Con il pluginwrapper uso il plugin di flash a 32 bit in firefox a 64... Di conseguenza quello che mi serviva a 32 bit ce l'ho anche a 64.
Riusa tranquillo la /home come dice il buon PiloZ!

Metti etch! Appena esce la stable un bel apt-get dist-upgrade e sei apposto (o si scazza tutto)

ora ho una debian a 32bit, anche con un kernel a 32bit, posso continuare ad usarla a 32bit (e quindi installare i driver nvidia a32bit) ??

Ragazzi ho un problema con la pendrive, la inserisco e... nisba! Do un lsusb e c'è... poi lo ridò e non c'è più Controllo da Kinfocenter e anche qui c'è e poi scompare - rapidamente su google arrivo a controllare hotplug, lo cerco con synaptic e vedo che non è installato, gli dico di installarlo e mi dice che vuol rimuovere kde

Ho provato altre porte, sempre stesso problema.
Ho visto da KInfoCenter che lo scanner è 1.0 (e funziona), il mouse 2.0 (funziona), la pen 1.10 (e non vuole saperne) che sia questo il problema? Pochi giorni fa è stato aggiornato il kernel, che abbia un problema con le usb 1.10? Attualmente ho un 2.6.18-4-k7

hotplug non serve piu ora è integrato in udev quindi è gia installato. In dmesg che messaggi compaiono quando attacchi la chiavetta? Se non la vede piu dovrebbe anche stamapre qualcosa. Magari fai un tail -f su /var/log/messages e vedi che succede in tempo reale quando inserisci la chiavetta.

visto che comunque reinstallando posso riusare gli stessi pacchetti a 32bit, cos'è che effettivamente cambia (oltre al kernel) ?
qualche libreria?
è possibile "convertire" una 32bit a 64bit solo installando i pacchetti propri dell'architettura a 64bit?

se così fosse invece di reinstallare tutto mi metto a perdere tempo a installare i pacchetti (e chiederei a Embryo mi mandarmi un dpkg -l o un dpkg --get-selection così vedo le differenze )...

Credo proprio che passerà tutto il mese di aprile prima che la nuova stable veda la luce. Installa cmq etch, tanto gli aggiornamenti che ci saranno al momento del rilascio non ti creeranno sicuramente problemi

PS la pen drive è un modello "strano" 1GB,
fa da registratore vocale e riproduttore mp3 wma etc, comprata in Luxemburgo a 35€
Su windows installa anche un cdrom "virtuale" per la riproduzione dei file con software incluso
PPS in synaptic poco sotto udev ho trovato

usbmount
automatically mount and unmount USB mass storage devices

Pensi possa servire?
(comunque ripeto fino alla settimana scorsa la montava in automatico senza batter ciglio)

IMHO al passaggio di etch a stable se hai testing nei repo farai praticamente l'update a sid per evitarlo dovrebbe bastare mettere etch al posto di testing e poi fare eventualmente il passaggio a sid quando lo riterrai opportuno
