prima review
Highs: * Writes to DVD-R and DVD+R media at 8x * Writes to DVD-RW and DVD+RW media at 4x * One of the first drives to support DVD+R DL media * Reads single layer DVD-ROM's at 12x * Reads DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW media at 8x * Good transfer speeds with pressed and CD-R media * Features 40x CD-R and 24x CD-RW writing speeds * Good DAE speeds * Supports Sony's Power-Burn technology * Good CD writing quality * Low seek times * Includes software from Ahead Software * Overburns to 99 minutes * Includes extra bezel * Nice looking design Lows: * Questionable writing quality with some DVD±R media * Cannot write to 4x DVD±R media at 8x * Has a 2048KB buffer * Doesn't support the Mt. Rainier format * Does not include any blank media Sony has obviously put a lot of effort into its new double layer DVD writer. One of the first drives to ship with support for the DVD+R DL format, the DRU-700A offers good looks, impressive performance and a number of features that should make it a big hit among consumers. If you're looking for a fast DVD writer, the DRU-700A should satisfy your need for speed. Thanks to its 8x DVD+R and DVD-R writing speeds, it was able to write 4GB of data in less than 9 minutes. This is a big improvement over Sony's earlier DVD writers. However, it wasn't enough to top Pioneer's new 8x DVD±RW. The DRU-700A also performed pretty well in our rewriting tests. While not as fast as some of the NEC based drives we've tested, it had no problems holding its own with both DVD+RW and DVD-RW media. When writing to DVD+R DL media, the DRU-700A took about 45 minutes to burn an entire 8.5GB DVD. While this isn't exactly fast, its writing quality was much better than I had expected. Of course, speed isn't everything. Writing quality and media compatibility are just as important. Unfortunately, Sony's new drive didn't do as well as I would have liked in these areas. There were a number of cases where the writing quality could have been better and like the DRU-530A, the DRU-700A wasn't able to write to any of our 4x DVD±R media at 8x. Hopefully, Sony can tweak this in a future firmware update. When it came time to read DVD's, Sony's new drive did exceptionally well. Along with some pretty good seek times, the DRU-700A was able to read single layer, data DVD-ROM's at 12x and DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW media at 8x. Sony's new drive was also very fast when reading DVD movies. In our tests, it was able to read single layer DVD-Video discs at an impressive 12x. Reading and writing CD's wasn't a problem for the DRU-700A either. Sony's new DVD writer had no problems reading pressed and CD-R media at 40x and read CD-RW discs at 33x. The drive also did well in our DAE tests, reaching speeds as high as 41x. This level of performance carried over to our writing and rewriting tests where the DRU-700A turned in some very impressive times. More importantly, it was able to do this without sacrificing writing quality or media compatibility. Like Sony's other drives, the DRU-700A also has its share of features. Along with a 2MB buffer, the drive includes support for Sony's Power Burn technology. The DRU-700A also gives you the ability to set the book type of DVD+R/RW and DVD+R DL media, a feature that will definitely come in handy if your DVD player is finicky about what discs it will read. Sony tops all this off with pretty good documentation, a software bundle from Ahead Software and a replacement bezel for those with a black colored case. Love it or hate it, double layer DVD+R technology is here to stay. The big question is whether to jump on the bandwagon now, or wait a few months. In all honesty, if you already have an 8x DVD±RW drive, you might want to hold off. The way it looks right now, DVD+R DL media will be in short supply for the next month or two. By the time it starts shipping in mass quantities, faster double layer drives will probably be available. On the other hand, if you're looking to buy your first DVD writer or upgrade from say a 4x DVD±RW, there's no reason not to go with a drive like the DRU-700A. While a little rough in some spots, the drive has the potential to be one of the better drives out there and with its support for the D

arrivato oggi, domani mi arrivano i supporti.
Poi cominciamo a ragionare... Stasera lo provo in condizioni "standard", come dual da domani sera. In bundle nero6, compreso recode.
