English Guide

How to connect 2 routers together using an ADSL PPP connection(1 router with ADSL modem and the other without integrated modem(broadband router), this guide is not for Static IP ADSLs)

If you have a ADSL router from your ISP and have a VoIP\IPTV service, you must connect this router to the telephone outlet. If you put the router in bridge mode you will lose the VoIP\IPTV connection. It's better to use an Access Point(without WAN port) to expand ETH or wireless connectivity(for wireless try using WDS mode)

The most important thing when hooking up 2 routers is avoiding a double NAT configuration

If both routers have an ADSL modem, you can use the second router as an Access Point\switch ETH. The only thing to do is disable the DHCP server of the second router and hook the two routers togther with an ETH cable. You can do the same if the second router has a WAN port, but I suggest the following guides for that! I suggest to change one of the routers webinterface IP, that way you can enter both routers from the same LAN(example: first router 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 & second router 192.168.1.50/255.255.255.0

The best way of getting rid of 1 NAT is this:

1) make the router with modem to act as a simple ADSL modem(no NAT-Firewall-DHCP Server)
2) set the ISP account in the PPPoE menů of the broadband router(router with WAN port, router without ADSL modem)
3) connect the routers together with an ETH cable. The cable must be inserted in the WAN port of the broadband router

Specifications & Requirements:
1) your ISP must support PPPoE connections(if your ISP uses only PPPoATM see the PPPoATM guide below)
2) ETH adsl modem or router ETH with integrated adsl modem
3) ETH cable
4) router ETH without adsl modem(WAN port broadband router)

I'm going to show an example with 2 D-Link products(DSL-604T & DI-624T)
Other brands of routers can be used with the same configuration

Let's start with a factory reset of the 2 routers

First step: Putting the ADSL router in MODEM MODE ONLY:

With the protocol RFC 1483 Bridged IP LLC(Vpi=8 e Vci=35) it is always possibile to switch off routing of an ADSL router
This configuration disables NAT, DHCP & Firewall.
In the WAN menů of the modem\router adsl we have to select bridge mode(or "Pure Bridge Mode" depending on the model)

If for some reason you have to enter the webinterface of the modem-router(after using this guide), you must insert a static IP in TCP/IP of the computer because the bridge mode turns off DHCP server. Or you can also reset to router with reset button

Second Step: PPPoE client configuration on the WAN router
Find the WAN setup and simply insert your ISP username & password

Third Step: Connecting the routers together

The last step is to connection the routers togehter with an ETH cable, from LAN port of the ADSL modem to the WAN port of the broadband router

Portforwarding is done only on the broadband router(the one with the WAN port)

Guide for ISPs that support only PPPoATM connections:

Specifications & Requirements:

1) ETH adsl modem or router ETH with modem adsl that has HALF-BRIDGE MODE function
2) ETH cable
3) router ETH without integrated adsl modem(broadband router that has a WAN port)
4) I suggest that the 2 routers have different IP addresses(first router 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 and second router 192.168.0.50/255.255.255.0)

Screenshots below are from a Trust 4050 with Billion firmware and a WAN TP-Link router

Part 1: ADSL Modem

Lets start with the modem ADSL

1) do a reset factory settings
2) setup the WAN section in PPPoA VC-MUX VPI=8 e VCI=35
NAT disable e Half Bridge Mode enabled

screenshots:

a PC connected to the modem in half bridge mode should have a ipconfig /all like this:

3) manually switch off the firewall:

Part 2: Router WAN

On the broadband router the only thing we must do is select Dynamic IP Address (obtain IP automatically)

Now connect the routers together from the LAN port of the adsl modem to the WAN port of the 2° router
If you have any problems just try to restart both the routers(power off and the turn them on after a minute)

The WAN Status of the broadband router should look like this:

Portfowarding for P2P or other software must be done on the broadband router

If the broadband router has a public IP and your having browsing problems, it could be a DNS problem
Try putting your ISP DNSs on the TCP/IP of your PC or on the WAN section of the broadband router
