Ho questa configurazione:

Amd 64 3000+ venice
512 mb ram
sk grafica Sapphire radeon x700pro pci-e 128mb.

Adesso non ricordo bene. L'errore è del "x server". Anche se digito "startkde" mi dice " display not found...." o qualcosa del genere. Dopo riprovo e mi segno tutto nei dettagli.

display not found? sei sicuro di aver settato bene lo schermo in xorgconfig?

comunque, bando alle ciance... ho un pc abbastanza simile al tuo, quindi pigliate questo:

Prima di spaventarti, è solo il mio xorg.conf

è un file che trovi in /etc/X11/ e si chiama xorg.conf
Per sistemarlo, digita: "sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf" (okkio alle maiuscole, devono essere come le ho messe io).
Comincia scrivendoci dentro un file uguale al mio (non è necessario riscriverlo tutto, molte cose ci sono già nel file che andrai ad aprire).
Salva, esci, e riavvia.
Con questo file dovrebbe avviarsi il server grafico automaticamente. chiaramente è settato per una scheda video standard, poi si vedrà di installare con calma i driver ati
Attento alla opzione:

Se trovi l'opzione BusID diversa dalla mia lasciala come ce l'hai, che è l'indirizzo fisico della scheda video.
