May or may not work!
This is a common issue with hardware that is not supported by Windows XP, and in many cases cannot be resolved.
You could try the following:
Navigate to: Control Panel\Device Manager\View, select "Show Hidden Devices"
Click on the + sign next to the USB port device.
Is there an EXCLAMATION mark, (?) ? If yes, select Properties and see if you can Disable it or Unistall it.
Now let the Operating System redetect it and reinstall the correct driver.
