se outlook express si attacca a server imap e ldap come penso, ti basta installare questi 2 servizi sul server.
ldap lo usi per tenerci dentro la rubrica, su imap invece ci stanno i messaggi. dietro a questi ovviamente i soliti procmail, postfix, fetchmail, clamav, spamassassin o alcune tra le mille alternative.
Però vedo che la soluzione per la posta è sempre IMAP

Tutto giusto e coretto. Quanto è recuperata la macchina (caratteristiche) e quanti utenti hai?
