garding Carl Foner's attempt to use the Netgear WG511 Wireless card: Only PC cards using the Broadcom chipset will work with the native Apple Airport software. According to the excellent and comprehensive chipset listing compiled by [AbsoluteValue Systems: .gz File], the Netgear WG511 uses the Prism chipset and will not work with Airport 3.1.
Using the above source, the only cards known to use the Broadcom chipset are (I did not include cards with question marks):
