Gran Prix Legends 2004 Demo!!!
Quote:
This demo is made exclusive for Blackhole Motorsports.
When the creators of the ever-popular NASCAR series of racing simulations, Papyrus, decided to create a historical Grand Prix racing simulation, many people were confused. "How could a racing simulation modeled after the 1967 Formula 1 Season be fun?" they asked. Well, to put it bluntly, it's fun because it is harshly and at times brutally realistic.
With few of the safety features and engine restrictions required on today's race cars, the 1967 Formula 1season was one of the most dangerous in Motorsports history. Increased horsepower, no down force, rock-hard bias-ply tires, fuel tanks placed not only in the cockpit with the drivers, but specifically fabricated and molded in such a way as to surround the driver, and seat belts... what were those? In fact, the conventional wisdom in those days was that it was better to be thrown from the car during an accident than be belted into it. And considering the drivers were actually sitting in the middle of a 40 plus gallon, thin-walled, aluminum fuel tank filled with very exotic and volatile fuel, who could blame them? Luckily for us we don’t have to worry about seatbelts or getting hurt beyond a simple bruising of our pride.
Grand Prix Legends (GPL) transports you to another era of racing, with the authentic feel of being a Formula 1 driver during a classic period in Motorsports history. A period when the person behind the wheel was more important than the machine. Names like Brabham, Clark, Gurney, Hill, Hulme, McLaren, Surtees and more will fill the roster and challenge you for position on some of the most historic and challenging tracks ever built.
At the time of it's initial release GPL was a cutting-edge racing simulation and make no mistake about it - today in 2004 Grand Prix Legends is still very much at the pinnacle of racing simulations. After nearly 6 years Grand Prix Legends is looking better than ever and it's supported by a global community unparalleled in the world both in size and friendliness.
What you will experience in this 2004 update of the original GPL demonstration are only the essentials, after all it is just a "demo." But what makes this updated demo unique is that it also contains a small sampling of the numerous add-ons that are now currently available for download. For example, there are now over 400 tracks made specifically for GPL and the list grows every week. In fact, within the last 5 weeks alone 14 new tracks have been released and all of them are representations of real tracks!
In addition to the hundreds of tracks that are now available there have been more graphical, utility and analytical programs created for GPL than you could possibly imagine or even wish for and frankly far too many to list here. Among these many downloads, or add-ons as they are frequently called, is a broad spectrum of graphic updates that will give you the ability to be able to customize your copy of GPL to suite your own personal tastes. Whether it's track graphics, car updates, sounds updates or even the in-game menu screens, there is an incredible variety of large and small add-ons available to choose from.
This GPL 2004 demo includes the original Papyrus demo plus all of the official Papyrus-produced patches that have been released since GPL's first introduction back in 1998. In addition to these official patches is a small sampling of some of the numerous and more substantial updates that have been developed and produced for GPL by individuals who like yourself are merely avid fans of this fantastic racing simulation. And the best thing about all of these downloads, is that they are all free. - No, that wasn't a typo, they're all free, which only underscores just how unique and generous the GPL community truly is.
The GPL 2004 Demo has close to if not more than 20 separate installs or tweaks. All of this is common knowledge to a GPL freak but for newbie’s this is not so easy. It's not like it is hard or to difficult, but it can take a considerable amount of time to figure things out and to test the game multiple times to see if the changes work etc. We all know that most people would rather skip all that. Well now they can.
Our goal with the Demo was to create an updated version to give new players a plug and play experience with GPL. But most important is that it present GPL they way it looks today but we have not included all the bells and whistles available for GPL but the mandatory bits all GPL fans use as a base setup.
After the demo is installed, click on the shortcut icon and GPL is ready to GO. There’s a pre-made Demo driver profile with setups for any of the cars you want to test drive. All you need to do is to setup the preferred controller that being Keyboard/Joystick/wheel and GPL is ready. With this Demo we hope new people will understand all the fuzz created by GPL fans who claims GPL to be The king if Sim's and why we love it so much still after nearly 6 years.
have fun and read the "What's New" after the demo installed and before you start the Demo for the first time. The html document is a presentation of both Grand Prix Legends and the artist involved in this project and their work that we are using in the demo.
