La velocità massima di caduta su Marte col paracadute APERTO è di 200 km/h (l'atmosfera è ridicolmente tenue).
Il paracadute di Schiaparelli si è staccato a 4 km di quota invece che 1, e i motori si sono accesi per 3 secondi invece che per 30.
Dicono che è arrivato a terra a più di 300 km/h.
Con i serbatoi di carburante ancora pieni.
Quel cratere è largo 15x40 metri.
Uno strumento che doveva accedersi dopo l'atterraggio, DREAMS, ha trasmesso dati per 19 secondi dopo lo spegnimento dei motori.
Dall'immagine si capisce che il lander non è esploso in volo, ma è arrivato a terra tutto d'un pezzo, con tutti i suoi 600 kg di massa, a scavare un bel buco.
Trovo strano che il paracadute sia a sud del punto di impatto: la traiettoria di atterraggio era ovviamente lungo l'asse maggiore dell'ellisse, da ovest verso est.
Schiaparelli "ha toccato" 5.4 km a ovest del centro dell'ellisse, cioè è "andato corto" (ovviamente, visto che tutta la sequenza di atterraggio risulta anticipata).
