300R vs Three Hundred Two

We mentioned it in the introduction already. The Corsair Carbide 300R and the Antec Three Hundred Two have so many similarities in terms of market positioning and included features, that we can imagine it is difficult to make a choice between the two. For this reason we have put the two in a comparison table below, and we will also highlight some differences. In the table we also included our old favourite Cooler Master CM 690 II which is fancier and more expensive, but not as effective in terms of cooling.

Space

The Antec Three Hundred Two is wider and larger than the Corsair Carbide 300R, but a large part of the gain is lost to the significant space behind the motherboard plate. This means that the 300R is able to fit slightly higher CPU coolers. Antec's hard disk rack also takes up more space, so the 300R has room for longer graphics cards. The difference is about 10 cm. The Three Hundred Two has more room for hard drives (including an odd position for an SSD behind the motherboard plate), but we don't see this as enough of an advantage to give the edge to the Three Hundred Two. In terms of available internal space, the winner is the Corsair Carbide 300R.

Ease of use

Both cases are relatively user-friendly. There is some screwing involved, but the hard drives you can mount without any screws (except for SSDs). Separate cards such as graphics cards do have to be fastened with screws, which on the 300R is done inside with thumb screws. On the Three Hundred Two you have to first detach a little plate, after which you fasten the screws from the outside. This is a little less practical. We prefer the hard disk trays of the Corsair over the rails in the Antec case. The 300R has a larger opening in the motherboard plate for a CPU backplate, but the Three Hundred Two's opening is big enough in our opinion. All things considered, we found the 300R to be a tad more user-friendly than the Three Hundred Two. The larger openings for hiding cables were the deciding factor.

Interior finish

Both the 300R and the Three Hundred Two lack any type of rubber finish, but on the other hand neither have any sharp edges. The 300R is spray-painted black on the inside, which we find a little more aesthetically pleasing. Also the front panel of the 300R appeals more to us than that of the Three Hundred Two. A slight victory for the 300R, in other words.

Cooling and noise production

As you can see the results of the 300R and the Three Hundred Two are very similar. The green checkmarks indicate the 300R as winner, but the difference between the two falls within the margin of error of this test. The Antec dampens sound somewhat better and is a hair more silent with fans on low speed. With fans on high the 300R clearly wins, even if the absolute difference is small. Then we need to look at cooling potential. The 300R has clearly more fan positions and is also able to fit 14 cm fans, where the Three Hundred Two is limited to primarily 12 cm ones. They are louder, but the Antec case has a built-in fan controller that the 300R does not. The difference is too small here, it's a draw.
