Da fine agosto Windows Update di Vista sarà aggiornato come quello di Win7
A partire da fine agosto Microsoft distribuirà un aggiornamento che andrà ad aggiornare il Windows Update di Windows Vista e Windows Server 2008 allineandolo con quello di Win7. Il nuovo WU, oltre ad essere ancora più affidabile, avrà un'interfaccia migliorata che mostrerà una descrizione più dettagliata dei vari aggiornamenti.

Questo è quindi il primo pezzo di Win7 ad assere back-portato su Vista (seguiranno WMP12, DirectX11, UAC 1.1, ecc.), quindi... Lunga vita a Vista...

Interfaccia Ribbon anche su Vista
E non finisce qui... Ad ottobre sarà rilasciato su Windows Update un aggiornamento importante per Vista chiamato "Windows 7 Client Platform Update" (precedentemente noto come "Windows 7 Interoperability Pack") che porta il framework Windows Ribbon di Win7 su Vista.
Così tutti i programmi sviluppati con l'interfaccia Ribbon (stile office 2007) saranno immediatamente funzionanti anche con Vista

Il "Platform Update" è stato rilasciato a tutti gli utenti di Vista SP2 attraverso Windows Update, così gli sviluppatori possono iniziare ad usare queste nuove librerie, contando sul fatto che sono state diffuse ad un vasto pubblico

Direct2D
The Direct2D API is a new hardware-accelerated, immediate-mode 2-D graphics API that provides high performance and high quality rendering for 2-D geometry, bitmaps, and text. The Direct2D API is designed to interoperate well with existing code that uses GDI, GDI+, or Direct3D.

Direct3D
The Platform Update for Windows Vista provides BGRA surface support for Direct3D10 and Direct3D10.1 codepaths. Direct3D10Level9 enables Direct3D10 functionality to work on Direct3D9 hardware. Direct3D WARP10 is a performant software rasterizer for Direct3D10 applications. A forza di backportare roba, Vista si sta trasformando sempre più in Win7... o quasi
