Prova ad aprire il file boot.ini che c'è in c:\, lì dovresti trovare una riga di questo tipo:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
in cui è indicato il sistema operativo.
