Il disco è fisicamente staccato?
...e XP è installato nella prima partizione del disco?

nessuno parla esplicitamente dell'accoppiata IDE/SATA.
I due controller dovrebbero essere visti come distinti, ma in realtà così non è (multi è sempre a 0), sospetto a 'sto punto che rdisk(1) indichi comunque il primo disco SATA anche se non sono presenti dischi PATA...
