questo è il mio grub.lst e chidendo e girovagando ho capito che forse il problema che quando esco da X il monitor è nero è dovuto al framebuffer (grazie anche a Sirus).

adesso grazie al tool hwinfo il risultato è questo (mostro solo la parte che mi interessa per il mio monitor
