potresti anche non usare una memoria di massa coem un harddisk ma o un cd con su masterizzato "l'immagine del sistema operativo" + un ramdisk in memoria oppure una memory su USB (tipo da 256mb etc.., tanto si puo' fare il boot da usb). certo che x fare quei lavori forse linux va meglio di windows...
