TUTORIAL
==========================================
Step 1------------------------------------
==========================================
FaceGen Import
Just a quick note on the tips ive found getting a perfect photofit into Oblivion
First follow all these guidelines
http://www.facegen.com/modeller31_help.htm#photofit
Also On the photofit it definatley produces better images with side shots
on the last step MAKE SURE before you compile the face to NOT use
"Preserve Facial Hair in Detail Texture"
and
"Use Detail texture from side photos"
it makes for a much smoother face with a less of a "mask" looking appearance
here are the examples;
---here is the original taken to far away, to much flash, no detail, and only a frontal shot
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/original.fa4.jpg
---here is the high res shot better flash, three sides compiled
WITH both "Preserve Facial Hair in Detail Texture"
and
"Use Detail texture from side photos" used
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/face%20shadow.jpg
as you can see the actually shadow in my eye sockets from my eyelashes! lol this is TO much detail
---here is the same pic above but with the two options UNchecked in the final compiling of the face
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/face.d00.jpg
as you can see its the best
==========================================
Step 2------------------------------------
==========================================
Texture
Let me start with the most time consuming first, Texture
I'm assuming you know how to import a face into FaceGen the programs tells you how this will be another very time consuming
task.
I re-did my face using front and side shots it DRASTICALLY improved the high resolution textures.
Now,Open up Facegen and load the face you want to import to oblivion
now under file -> export -> choose "Wavefront *.obj"
Under Model Export Option
Texture Image Type ----> chose .TGA
Image Size --------------> Full Size
Model Select -------------> Curreny Expresion
leave the other setting alone
this will create 9 files the one you want is called
(your name)_skin_hi.tga
MAKE SURE THE NVidia DDS Plug in is installed as mentioned previously
open the skin_hi tga file in photoshop, you'll notice it has an ear on one side, use the eyedropper tool and copy a color
close to the eyes then and paintbrush over the ear (oblivion models split the head and ears into different models so human
and elf races can share the same head model)
once it looks good save it
now file -> save as -> dds and the nvidia menu pops up and you can save it. Use the default setting on the
nVidia DDS panel i did a few experiments it did NOT produce any observable difference so leave it at the default setting.
so far in order to get the face playable in oblivion you need to create a new race
LET ME SAY THIS AGAIN YOU NEED TO CLONE AN EXISTING RACE IN THE CONSTRUCTION SET
with the texture you just made as the default texture for that race, so you will we need to make a new race. You can either
edit the default oblivion.esm or make a new plugin which is much safer.
open up the ESIV Construction Set
this is the starting blank screen first thing you do is
go to file ->Save and choose a filename, this will be the .ESP you use from now on so give it a good name then click save
next click on file then Data,
now select double click on the box to the left of Oblivion.esm
AND make sure the new ESP you just made is checked
and MAKE SURE THE FILE IS SET TO ACTIVE!
hit ok and open up the data files
now on the top row of control chose
character -> race
and screen pops up with a list of races (any changes here will be reflected only in your plugin as long as it's set as the
active file)
click on a race (i used a Nord for me on the below examples) and right-click > duplicate. now you can edit the new race.
now back to the texture you made, go to oblivion\data\textures\characters\ and make a new folder for your new race. and place
the .dds you made in that folder
(make any folders in the above path you don't have)
back to the Construction Set
on the race menu screen click the "Face Data" Tab and the first row "Head" the right column click the button
and select your .dds click OK
Now File SAVE
Now Exit Construction Set
This is now the main texture you will use EVERYTIME you play the game.
You must use this plug in for your TEXTURE off your new face.
Texture can be -REDONE ANYTIME and any point in he game if you use your own Custom Plug in this way.
==========================================
Step 3------------------------------------
==========================================
Shape
Zennorious still has the best Working program out there and it's all based on the work of
Scanti. It's not perfect but it's the best we have right now
Ok open the FaceGen to Oblivion Converter.exe
select your face from the original facegen file open it hit next
for the next step "exporting the raw face texture" ignore this since you have created the perfect texture in PART 1 and its
ready to use hit next
select your race for this example i used a Nord click the next button
NOW THE most important step SHAPE and TONE boxes in the
Shape Box choose "Force the FaceGen Like Face Shape" you must choose this for the most acurate import.
In the Tone Box choose " Don't change the tone of the face in the save file." Since the new ESP you just created provides the
tone. Hit the next button
Ok now to choose the save game it should be either a new game or before the sewers exit since you will have to tweak slightly
still. Hit the "browse" button and go to your saved game location (in my case E:\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves\) while
in the browse window chose your "master save" i have one before exiting the sewers and copy it then past it in the same
browse window just to make sure you have the original backed up.Hit the bext button.
If you did everything right you should now see "Importing the Facegen File into the Oblivion File was successfull."
ok last part
==========================================
Step 4------------------------------------
==========================================
ok Remember what you just made is
Step 2 = Texture
Step 3 = Shape
YOU NOW MUST SELECT THE CLONE AN EXISTING RACE YOU CREATED IN THE CONSTRUCTION SET IN STEP 1
if your at the sewer exit or starting a new game you have to chose your NEW RACE THAT YOU CLONED
it will be RIGHT NEXT TO THE ORIGINAL RACE AS YOU SELECT RACES ON THE CHARACTER CREATION MENU
AGAIN, in order for this texture to be used in Oblivion you must select the new race you made in The Construction Set. If i wasn't clear about that in step one understand me now.
ok now set up your work enviroment;
Open up FaceGen if you closed it and load your face file, make it look directly at you
Bring up the Oblivion Launch screen, under options select and this is important
WINDOWED--800 by 600, this is important as you need to see both faces next to each other
place the facegen face on the extreme right hand side
of the screen and open the oblivion now windowed game
Here is a simulation of what im talking about ;
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/800%20x%20600.jpg
Now start Oblivion, load the new ESP you made, load the game
start and new game or exit the sewers and select CHANGE RACE
CHOSE YOUR NEW RACE , in my case i cloned the Nord so my new race is right next to Nord, but it has the textures you created.
Also look at your new face when you bring up the inventory screen, the character creation view does a poor job showing in game faces. Actually EXTREMELY poor versus the actual in game pictures, stunning how NOT accurate it is.
This is the best way to see the face on the inventory screen.
I warn you against fooling with the age and complexion settings, since however some facial tweaking might be need to be done
use the Shape..Face..controls in the game only
ok here are the examples;
New FaceGen Import Master Face File
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/face.d00.jpg
now taken into the game in these examples below;
Imperial Face From Cloned Imperial Race in CS
Shape Set to "Force the Facegen like face shape"
Tone set to "Don't change the tone of the face in the save file"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/I...20Tone%201.jpg
Shape Set to "Force the Facegen like face shape"
Tone set to "Allow the racial face values to change the shape of the face"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/I...20Tone%202.jpg
Shape Set to "Force the Facegen like face shape"
Tone Set to "Force the FaceGen like face tone"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/I...20Tone%203.jpg
Nord Race From Cloned Nord Race in CS
Shape Set to "Allow the racial face values to change the shape of the face"
Tone set to "Don't change the tone of the face in the save file"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/Nord%202%201.jpg
Shape Set to "Allow the racial face values to change the shape of the face"
Tone set to "Allow the racial face values to change the shape of the face"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/Nord%202%202.jpg
Shape Set to "Allow the racial face values to change the shape of the face"
Tone Set to "Force the FaceGen like face tone"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/Nord%202%203.jpg
Shape Set to "Force the Facegen like face shape"
Tone set to "Don't change the tone of the face in the save file"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/Nord%203%201.jpg
Shape Set to "Force the Facegen like face shape"

http://images6.theimagehosting.com/Nord%203%202.jpg
Shape Set to "Force the Facegen like face shape"
Tone Set to "Force the FaceGen like face tone"
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/Nord%203%203.jpg
As you can see from the above examples i believe the best process is to set
both shape AND tone to "Force the FaceGen like face tone"
as this produces the most accurate results.
THE BEST WAY TO GET THE BEST HUMAN FACES IN FROM PHOTOFIT INTO THE GAME IS THE IMPERIAL RACE
this is the default race and adds no filters
as you can see the nord race makes the face to wide but it can be adjusted in game
Tips and Tricks-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are getting BAD blotchy faces and did NOT skip step 1 of my tutoral then you haven't chose the RACE properly in
oblivion, remeber its adjacent right next to the race you cloned.
