Apt-get synaptic

Sicuramente è una domanda davvero ridicola
ma non so poprio come togliermi questo dubbio

ho la versione suse 9.3
ho installato da testo apt-get e ho abbastanza capito come funziona
ho provato ad installare "synaptic"
ma mi da dipendenze

la mia domanda è sicuramente banalissima ma...
cosa sono le dipendeze? pacchetti che mancano oppure che sono usati da altri programmi?
e in questo caso cosa posso fare?
ho provato ad installare ignorando queste dipendenze ma non va

ma con la suse come mai usi apt-get?
la suse e' cosi' semplice da aggiornare con yast..che usi un aggiornamento debian like?...
