Problema cdrom esterno

Ciao a tutti.
Vi chiedo gentilmente un aiutino.
Ho un notebook Fujitsu Siemes AMILO D (P4 2.8 ghz),comprato circa a febbraio 2003.
Per qualche motivo a me sconosciuto, il cd-rom interno ha smesso di funzionare..Ora, ho provveduto a comprare un cd-r/dvd-r esterno usb,ignorando però un grosso problema :
dovendo formattare..come posso far partire l'installazione di XP?
E' possibile farlo dal cd rom esterno?

If yes, enter the BIOS and set the computer to boot from "Removable Devices", Save and Exit. Attach the USB CD-ROM and start the installation.

If you have a floppy drive, download the software (you will need 6 floppy disks) and use both drives.
