More on redundancy parameters. After some discussion we have decided to send out 4 copies of each workunit and continue with a quorum of 3 for validation. Validation should still proceed at a good pace because a single result in error will not mean distributing an additional workunit copy (and waiting for it's result) in order to reach a quorum.

IMHO lo fanno per ridurre i tempi di accredito,però il 4°si becca anche lui i punti o lo prende in domo?

La domanda che mi son fatto pure io.....
Non sarebbe bello scaccolare per ore e ore e vedere che il tuo risultato non è servito a niente.....

Esatto, praticamente sono tornati allo stesso metodo di prima, però mandano subito 4 copie della wu ai computer per evitare di dover aspettare nel caso una vada in errore o non venga elaborata, e quindi il flusso dei crediti dovrebbe essere comunque + veloce. Per quanto riguarda la 4ª wu (ovvero l'ultima che arriva) penso che prenda gli stessi crediti assegnati alle altre 3..

Non vorrei mettere il dito nell'occhio a qualcuno, ma questa procedura non ottiene ANCHE il risultato di DIMEZZARE le capacita' di calcolo del progetto SETI ???

Mi sembra un prezzo un po' alto da pagare per avere le WU validate in fretta ...

Here's a quick end-of-the-year current status of things:

A few modifications to the database made on Monday caused it to slow down significantly (far more than expected). But this didn't really become noticeable until today. A lot of queries were backing up - at one point this morning we were unable to send out any work due to the backlog. As of now, things are slow but manageable - you may still find the web site a little more sluggish than usual. We're working on it.

We're hastily getting two new big servers on line. One will be the new BOINC database server. Our current server is maxed out at 2 old CPUs and 2 GB RAM. This new server will start with 2 CPUs that are 5 times faster and 8 GB RAM. Plus it has the ability to grow by 2 more CPUs and double the RAM if demand is high. As well, attached to it will be a hardware RAID for much faster disk I/O. The current server will then become the replica server. We need to get this working in order to keep up with increased demand as users migrate from classic SETI@home to BOINC.

The other server a Sun E3500 similar to our current E3500 which holds the master database (where all the scientific results are stored after they are validated). The storage on the current database is slow, bulky, and almost full. We will put much larger, more efficient disk arrays on the new E3500 and then transfer the database to it. This will vastly improve the speed of our back-end scientific analysis.

Secondo me sono un po' confusi.

Questa lentezza nella validazione era già pietosa prima figuriamoci adesso. E poi non tollero assolutamente le abissali differenze di crediti da processore a processore.... possibile che con un centrino 1.8 ho sistematicamente i claimed alla metà di un athlon xp 1800+.
Va bene che ci mette la metà del tempo a scaccolarla ma è comunque sempre una wu.... dovrebbero cambiare qualcosa a mio parere.

Devo dirmi del tutto soddisfatto del client che ora funzia bene. Io aspetto speranzoso.:(

E' il delirio ... il centrino 1.8 macina da venerdi scorso e mi ha prodotto meno crediti di un athlon xp 2800+ che ho infettato ieri l'altro.

Viene da bestemiare...:mad:
