Salve a tutti.
Grazie in anticipo

The story is as follows:
- The HP Laserjet 5L (or 6L) comes with a built-in memory of 1 Mo
only.
- This is OK to print "pure text" pages which are usually well below
that size, but it means that the printer is unable to print anything
bigger than 1 Mo. For example: graphics, etc.
- To overcome this problem, HP has developed a special driver, which
you use to replace the standard PCL driver. It is called the Host
Driver, and it uses the computer's own memory to "prepare" the page
before sending it to the printer, which means that there is no limit
to the size of the page you are able to print. GREAT !
- This Host Driver works with Windows 9x and ME, but NOT WITH XP...
and there is no sign that HP are going to develop an XP version. So,
what you get either from the Windows XP installation disk or from the
HP internet site is the standard PCL5 driver, which works fine as long
as the page you want to print does not exceed the 1 Mo limit...
- Another possibility to print large-sized pages with XP is to buy an
8 Mo memory card for the 5L/6L... Unfortunately (again!) those cards
are very difficult to find on the market AND are very expensive...

- Conclusion: it seems that HP 5L/6L owners are stuck in a dead-end...

- One awkward solution I am using: install a dual-boot on your machine
to keep Windows ME on one partition and XP on another... Whenever you
have to print extra-large pages on your HP L5/L6, boot into ME instead
of XP...

- Hope that helps...
