A REPORT ON AMD Board claims that Advanced Micro Devices is testing a 90 nanometre DDR silicon on insulator (SOI) processor using a new-fangled 900 pin socket and codenamed Toledo.
That, the site claims, will be introduced in the second quarter of next year.
And, it adds, dual core DDR-2 90 nanometre chips will follow just a few months after that.
We reported from AMD's fab in Dresden recently that the director of its fab, Dr Michael Raab, was projecting larger caches for Opterons, as well as use of low k, and the limitations on silicon on insulator (SOI).
AMD is already working on breaking through those limitations as well as the possibility of using DDR-3.
