Salve a tutti,
ho Windows XP e guardando nella lista dei task vedo un certo ntdvm che mi consuma tutte le risorse del processore. Provo a chiuderlo forzatamente dal task manager, ma periodicamente mi riappare e mi rallenta un sacco le prestazioni. Come faccio a sbarazzarmene definitivamente?

Su Internet ho trovato questo messaggio:

Here I am again with more questions.....

I was wondering what NTDVM.EXE is, why is it clocking my cpu at 100% when it is simply some type of dos window handler. It runs whenever a user logs into a dos door like Evangilist wars, or Lord. or any at that. When I get more than 3-5 people online it slows to a crawl.

I run a Internet Game shop, most logons are via my 100mbps network, some do logon via outside telnet. Most from inside. If I try to install doors or run any DOS based software at all from the BBS pc the customers screens almost lockup completly.

I am running on light equipment, did not think it needed heavy duty stuff.

Compaq 500mhz Celeron
256Mb SDRAM
30 Gig 7200rpm HD
128kU/384kD DSL
100mpb Netgear NIC
Windows XP Professional
SBBS V3.00
(Tried new Ver of SBBS, could not get doors to work.)

Is there a way to reduce the CPU usage, would switching operating systems help? Can not do linux not even close to tackling that. Would moving back to a more DOS friendly OS like Win98 help? I get good discounts from Dell due to the PC's I have got for our Cafe' would one of there server systems run better than just a regular system. Would changing the BBS PC to a 2.56Ghz Dell solve the problem?????

OK, I know i have asked alot of questions here, pleas answer the ones you feel are relavent to my problem.... The BBS is beating out Diablo II, Warcraft 3, and Call of Duty in PC play time.

Also to Digital Man, Thanks Again, How do I register, or help with the BBS cause, what can I do. I am not rich, but want to help however I can.

Many DOS programs were not written with multi-tasking environments (like Windows) in mind and the worst of these programs (e.g. BRE) will consume much of your idle time slices (CPU time), especially on NT-based operating systems (like WinXP) where DOS programs run in an emulated environment (i.e. NTVDM.EXE).

Not all DOS programs are ill-behaved and if you experiment, you'll find that some are more cooperative with NT than others. Getting a faster CPU would definitely help eliviate the problem, but there's only so much you can do on an NT-based OS.

You can use a 3rd party program called TAME (http://www.tamedos.com/) to reduce the CPU utilization of the more ill-behaved DOS doors.

Or you can switch to Win9x/Me. Since Windows 9x-based OSes do not emulate the CPU to run DOS programs, DOS doors run much faster and consume far fewer time-slices on the same hardware.

As for Synchronet contributions, you can make a paypal donation (rob@synchro.net). :-)

Mi sa quindi che non è un problema di virus, dialer ecc... :)
