C'est fait ! Bien que les porte-parole d'Intel n'ait pas encore commenté cette évolution, les partenaires d'Intel ont commencé avec l'ouverture de l'IDF a parler de la technologie CT (Clackamas Technology). Anciennement connue sous le nom de code de YamHill, cette extension 64 bits au jeu d'instruction IA32 porte désormais le nom de "IA32E Extended Technology". Activée sur le Nocona (Xeon Prescott), elle ne devrait toutefois arriver sur les PCs de bureaux qu'avec le Tejas, comme nous l'avions prédit. On peut voir ici confirmation sur les slides de HP et nVidia publiés par Tecchannel.

De même, une source russe bien connue nous apprend qu'il n'y aura bien qu'une seule version de Windows XP 64 bits et que celle-ci est prévue pour le second semestre. Baptisée "Windows XP for 64-bit Extended System" et non pas "Windows XP for AMD64", cette version devrait fonctionner avec les Xeon CT ainsi qu'avec les Opteron et autres Athlon 64. C'est d'ailleurs probablement pour cette raison que Microsoft a retarder la sortie de cette version, initialement prévue, rappelons le, pour Q3'03. Toutefois, si l'OS est identique pour les deux versions, nous ne savons encore rien sur la compatibilité des programmes développés pour l'un ou l'autre des processeurs.

BEh, dice che in pratica la tecnologia Clackamas di Intel sarà attivata già negli Xeon Nocona (quelli che escono fra poco insomma) e che non bisognerà aspettare il tejas
Poi parla della compatibilità tra win64, amd64 e intel Clackamas.
Infatti non si è completamente sicuri della compatibilità con entrambe le tecnologie, però dice che l'os che esce fra qualche mese si chiama Windows XP for 64-bit extended system (non specifica mmm) e non Windows XP for amd64
