Backup di DVD

Mi sono comprato il masterizzatore di DVD.
Con Windows rieco a fare un backup perfetto di un mio film su DVD usando

DVD Decripter + DVD2One + Primo DVD

Il primo rippa
Il secondo edita
Il terzo scrive

con linux come posso fare (possibilmente da GUI) per fare la stesa cosa?
che software utilizzate voi ?

per rippare puoi usare vobcopy.
per editare usa avidemux. fa da interfaccia anche ad un programmino per requantizare il dvd e portarlo a 4.7gb.
per scrivere k3b e cdrecord, forse serve anche dvd+rw-tools o qualcosa di simile.

con avidemux posso scegliere cosa includere nel DVD che andrò a creare (ad esempio, l'adio in altre lingue non mi serve, i sottotitoli idem, ecc ecc) in modo da rientrare nei 4,7 GB senza dover comprimere il video ?

Comunque più tardi provo e faccio sapre le mie esperienze, magari fa comodo a qualcuna altro.

per vobcopy non so se esiste un'interfaccia grafica. cmq. è una cavolata.
vobcopy -i /dev/dvd -l -o /dove/vuoi/il/dvd/

con avidemux non puoi sciegliere sottotitoli o audio. o almeno no penso si possa fare. quello che fa è ricquantizzare e nonricomprimere. Per ridurre un dvd normale da 2 ore a 4.7gb dovrebbe impiegare circa 20minuti.

I primi due programmi sono da riga di comando. La scena del DVD-shrinking sotto linux e` ancora abbastanza acerba, mancano ancora buoni tool completi (anche se vobmangle -vedi link- promette bene). Per le GUI siamo ancora in mare abbasttanza alto; peraltro, per il ripping in quanto tale, non ne vedo la pressante necessita`.

Per il riping no, ma per lo shrinking la GUI è indispensabile IMHO

Parliamone; non sono un'esperto di shrinking, ma
1) i flussi da incorporare nel .vob ridotto si scelgono tranquillamente anche da CLI
2) il calcolo del fattore di riquantizzazione e` un'operazione aritmetica -> non vedo il vantaggio della GUI

Forse per i menu e cose del genere?

è rimasta una delle pochissime cose che faccio ancora con windows, penso che nel giro di qualche mese si risolva con transcode+dvd::rip ma per adesso...

Toh, i casi della vita (e sempre a proposito di GUI)

I just released version 0.1.0 of vobmangle. It comes with two helper programs
and a nice GUI.

Purpose: vobmangle replaces the video stream within a MPEG 2 program
elementary stream (such as on dvd) with a replacement stream. This stream can
be a requantized version of the original video in order to reduce the size of
the PES.

There is barely any documentation in the package. Here is a short howto:

- untar, configure, make, make install
- now you have the programs vobmangle, pesdemux and m2vrequant in /usr/local/
bin
- you need ifo_dump (from the ogle distribution)
- you also need tccat from transcode 0.6.12
- of course you need dvdauthor, preferably the current version 0.6.9
(including spumux)
- for the GUI, you need PythonQt (a.k.a. pyqt) and PythonImaging
- now create a empty directory somewhere and cd to that directory
- start the script gui/makedvd.py from the vobmangle directory
- enter the correct DVD path in the field "source" of the upcoming dialog.
This can be a device like /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 or a path to dvd on your
harddisk.
- Push "next"
- Choose the track you want to copy. Push the "retrieve information" button.
This will take some time.
- Push "next"
- Choose audio tracks and subtitle tracks.
- For every audio track you can choose a "dedicated subtitle track". When
playing the dvd with that audio track, the forced subtitles of the dedicated
subtitle track are displayed. If you tick "show all", not only the forced but
all subtitles are displayed. In the bottom half of the dialog you can choose
more subtitles.
- Push "finish"
- In the upcoming dialog, you have to give the filename of a TrueType font and
of a background image. You can also modify the size and color value.
- You can have a preview of the resulting menues by clicking on "preview".
When you are finished, go back to "settings" to click okay.
- The menues are now created.
- Then you are asked if the DVD creation should start now. Either click "yes",
or start the script "makedvd.sh" (which was just created) manually.

This software is pre-alpha. It lacks lots of functionality and has no
documentation at all. It is intended for expert users in the hope that
someone contributes error reports, bug fixes, proposals, documentation etc.

In addition to what I wrote, you need a special version of lsdvd. I added two
little features to lsdvd 0.10. I gave the patch to Chris Phillips (author of
lsdvd), and he said he would include it in the next release.

Meanwhile, I can offer you the patches. First, get lsdvd-0.10 from
sourceforge:

Why this? I extended lsdvd by two features:
1. print out the chapter and cell length with millisecond accuracy (instead of
only seconds)
2. give extended information about cells: what VOB ID they belong to, how many
sectors they have.

The GUI script needs this information to put the necessary numbers into the
shell script it creates. Without it you would get errors from dvdauthor,
stating that some timestamps move backwards.
