Salve a tutti.
------------------
Bought a tablet, bought a USB cable, but sadly I attatched the cable
backwards. The machine now makes a continuous rapid beeping, and
complains of keyboard failure. I'm not proud of myself.
The keyboard checks out okay on another machine. If the 577 is booted
without keyboard then there is no beeping.
Checked the fuse for continuity. Oddly, it only kicked the needle over
about 80%. I would have expected 100% or nothing. Other board fuses
show 100%. So I bridged it anyway to run a test. No joy; still get the
beeps and keyboard failure.
I'm guessing the power surge from screwing up the USB damaged the fuse
and something beyond. Do the USB and keyboard have a common UART or
some such?
Help is appreciated as it turns out used PI AT boards are now rare in
this town. I'd have to buy new for $100, not the $25 I expected, and
at that point it's really time to put the money into a whole new
system. But I just hate seeing all those old parts go to waste, you
know?
------------
Saluti a tutti.
Stefano.
