kernel panic dopo ricompilazione

Ho ricompilato come da manuali senza saltare alcun passaggio ma al riavvio si blocca con tale errore:

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe/ -s -k nls_iso8859-1 errno=2
kernel panic: VFS unable to mount root fs on 03:00

ovvero?!? Ho ricompialto due volte solito errore.

Nella sezione file system del kernel, hai abilitato in modo permanente il file system che usi (ad es. ext3) e non come modulo?

sinceramente sono mooooolto newbye e rispondo sì con certezza solo perchè neel make menuconfig non ho selezionato nulla come modulo...
diciamo che sto facendo "esperienza"

mmhhh... quando ricompili il kernel, di default, a meno che tu non metta l'asterisco nel file system che vuoi utilizzare(per intenderci quello con cui hai formattato la partizione linux), non lo carica in automatico per cui, ricontrolla nel kernel che ext3 sia abilitato(sempre che tu abbia scelto ext3 cpme file system).

Ho trovato!!

Nel kernel togli il supporto nls per iso8859 (non ti serve) a meno che tu non voglia leggere partizioni vfat ma in questo caso, compilalo come modulo(M), così sarai tu a decidere quando caricarlo e quando no.

Allora, se proprio ti servono devi abilitare nella sezione Native Language Support la voce n°24, proprio il "nls iso8859_1

Non avevo capito che dovevo selezionarlo, pensavo fosse di default.
Cmq ora si blocca su un'altra riga ma non mi sembra riporti l' errore come prima:

Scusa, mi diresti come è partizionato il tuo disco/dischi e che sistemi operativi o partizioni hai?

allora.... prima partizione winxp, seconda linux, terza swap linux, quarta ntfs per i dati (che vorrei condividere con linux)

mi inserisco nella discussione per farti presente che nn ha molto senso usare una partizione ntfs per condividere i dati, visto che linux riesce solo a leggerla ma nn a scriverla... andrebbe molto meglio una FAT32 a quello scopo!

sì in effetti lo sapevo...ma per ora mi va bene così poi convetirò la partizione ntfs a fat32 (è che installando winxp mi avevan fatto credere che questa era da preferisrsi perchè migliore opinioni a riguardo?)

Migliore sicuramente se la devi utilizzare per windows, ma, effettivamente, da linux a windows, andare a scrivere su una ntfs non è che è impossibile, solo caldamente sconsigliato(almeno per ora).
