Ciao a tutti,

Ho delle schede 3D molto particolari ma a cui sono molto affezzionato e credo non ci sia modo migliore per approfondire Linux che impazzire a configurarle:

ATI FURY MAXX 64MB RAM con doppio chip RAGE 128 pro

2 VOODOO2 in SLI

MATROX M3D con chip PCX2 di NEC PowerVR

Nessuna distro riesce a far partire X ne a configurare in automatico,
ma in rete ho trovato un file che volevo sottoporre al vostro parere anche se risale ad una MDK 7.2

Chi lo ha rilasciato dice che a lui funziona anche se non ho avuto ancora modo di provarlo, volevo sapere da voi se è possibile migliorare qualcosa

Veramente io con la fury maxx carico mandrake senza problemi tutto in automatico

Potresti gentilmente dirmi che versione di MDK usi e magari postarmi il file XF86Config-4 nella sezione

Ragazzi per specialisti era un modo di dire, mi basterebbe anche partire a 256 colori a 800X600

Sono daccordo ma sia la MDK 91 che KNOPIX 3.2 mi danno lo stesso problema, e possibile che sia qualche impostazione del bios ?

Come posso settare la quantita di memoria in XF86Config-4 ?

Il mio XFree86.0.log mi da un:

Fatal server error :

xf86MapPciMem: Could not nmap PCI memory

allora prima di tutto che XFree hai? che versione?
Secondo hai provato a fare XFree86 -configure ?
Vedi che risultato ti da, se va a buon fine ti genera un file XF86Config.new (o XF86Config-4.new) , editalo cambiando il mouse lo canna sempre.
poi lancia XFree86 -xf86configure XF86Config.new
Deve andare X se ti ha creato il file, altrimenti se non trova i driver non lo fa.

Io proverei a dare una controllata a:
cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
nella sezione Video, guarda se è abilitato il supporto x la tua scheda video.
altrimenti abilitalo o con * (statico nel kernel, precaricato all'avvio) o con M (come modulo, da caricare con modprobe nomemodulo).

poi salvi ed esci e fai un bel:
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make install
e copi il file arch/i386/boot/bzImage al posto del tuo attuale file vmlinuz.

XFree richiede l'aiuto del kernel solo per l'accelerazione 3d. Per tutte le altre operazioni, è completamente indipendente dal kernel.

Le voci sopra DRM sono per il supporto agp, quelle sotto sono per il supporto accelerato 3d. Entrambe non sono richieste per il normale funzionamento 2d.

Sì sì certo, però non sono l'origine del problema. Visto che il problema è alquanto interessante, andrebbe riportato agli sviluppatori, e sarebbe bene farlo con la "minima configurazione non funzionante"

nix.nix, puoi provare ad avviare la macchina solo con la scheda ATI e rimuovendo momentaneamente le altre?

Si certo non è un problema se puoi aiutarmi a contattare gli sviluppatori, sai a scrivere in inglese sono un disastro!

fammi pure un elenco di tutti i file e i log che ti servono, devo ancora configurare il mio Ericsson hm220dp su porta USB, (se hai un buona guida per questo modem:D) i log che ti ho mostrato ho dovuto copiarli su floppy.

Non mi dispiacerebbe chiedere agli sviluppatori cosa si può fare per le Voodoo2 e la Matrox M3D con chip PowerVR PCX2

Per la v2 c'è un thread in giro che ne parla, per la PowerVR scordatelo.

Riguardo il report, visto che ti da lo stesso problema con diverse distribuzioni, forse il posto giusto per scrivere è direttamente alle mailing list di xfree. Ti consiglio di rimuovere le altre schede video dal sistema; i log che ti servono sono i messaggi del kernel (dmesg), i messaggi di xfree (sotto /var/log), una descrizione del tuo hw (caratteristiche della scheda video, e lspci -nv), il file di configurazione di xfree. Ti consiglio di mettere questi file su uno spazio web e postare i link, senza appesantire troppo la mail. Specifica che si tratta di un problema che si presenta con più distribuzioni, altrimenti crederanno che è un problema specifico dell'xfree della Mandrake.
