In un piccolo villaggio arroccato su una delle tante montagne Europee, una sera un treno, giunto in anticipo, scarica l'ultimo passeggero. Alcune settimane prima, era stato informato il Vaticano che in questa zona era accaduto un miracolo così la Santa Sede ha spedito un rappresentante per studiare quanto accaduto. Appena posti i piedi per terra però, il mandatario del Vaticano percepisce subito che non tutto sembra essere come dovrebbe, si rende in pratica conto che non tutti i cosiddetti 'miracoli' sono lavoro di Dio. Un segreto spaventoso lo stà aspettandolo...
