linux e notebook presario 920ea help!!!!!!

Voglio installare linux(mandrake 9 o redhat 7.3) ma con entrambi penso ci siano grosse incompatibilita' di kernel, infatti sin da prima installazione mi si blocca tutto dicendomi:PANIC KERNEL.
Cosa posso fare???Ho provato anche ad avviarlo col floppy, ma qui l'installazione prosegue ma quando lancio linux mi si blocca nuovamnete col solito panic kernel...HELP

Quindi, quando arriva il prompt di boot, prova a digitare: 'linux pci=off'
