Girovagando su internet, nell'intento di raccogliere info per l'acquisto di un notebook, e avendo adocchiato i Toshiba... m'imbatto nel ng comp.sys.laptops, e in diversi msg relativi alla produzione "made in Taipei" :eek: di alcuni di essi (e non solo ...):

I would recommend staying away from that one. Unlike the 240x and
241x series the 243x series is a "built by Compal", not a "real"
Toshiba. That's the main reason you don't see a P4-m in it. As of
right now, all P4 "real" Toshibas are using the P4-m while the "built
by Compal" units are all using desktop P4 chips. Another big problem
with the Compal units is parts availability. Since they are the OEM
of the budget models for quite a few laptop manufacturers it is likely
that any Compal built laptop will have its "twins" among many
manufacturers. This means you've got multiple service centers of
different brands all fighting for parts allocation.
I'm the Senior Tech at a Toshiba Premier ASP. When we order ANY parts
for a "real" Toshiba well over 95% of them show up the next day Fedex
overnight. With the Compal units we very rarely receive any major
part the next day and quite often it can stretch out to weeks of
waiting. We recently had a "very unhappy" customer wait almost 2
months for a system board for a "Compal" 1955-S803. Since the
computer was totally dead they couldn't even use it while waiting for
the part to come in.

Here's a big tip as to how you can determine ahead of time if a
particular model is a Compal or not. Go to Toshiba's website and look
up the specs on the model you're interested in. Check the section on
the Power Supply. If the AC Adapter indicates an output voltage of 19
volts it is a Compal unit. The real Toshibas will indicate an output
voltage of 15 volts for the AC Adapter.

Dell Latitudes are made by Quanta while Inspirons are made by Compal. Acer
was recently added by Dell to supply Inspiron notebooks. Fujitsu
manufactures only a small quanity in-house - they too get their notebooks
manufactured by Compal.
Toshiba and Sony were the only vendors that until recently manufactured all
notebooks themselves. For the past couple of quarters, Toshiba has begun to
outsource some of its entry level models such as Satellite 17XX and 2XXX
series to Compal. However, the build quality of 17XX looks very solid
despite the outsourcing. The higher-end models - Tecras and Porteges will
continue to be manufactured by Toshiba at its manufacturing facilities in
the US, Germany and Japan.
dunque, ci sarebbero Toshiba di pedigree diverso....Qualcuno può valutare il grado di attendibilità di tali info?
Controllando sui manuali del sito Tosh italiano, si legge che 1410-2140 hanno dc 15v, mentre il 1900 ha 19v... vi risulta?
aldilà della possibile diversa genitura, che ne dite del delta di $$$$ tra il 1410-603 (1400€) e il 1900-303 (1750€)? Quale mi consigliereste? Al momento, io propendo verso il primo...

Una cosa che non mi convinceva, era quella delle autonomie operative pressochè analoghe, data nelle specs... poi, sul sito toshiba ho trovato che il 1400(celeron mobile 1800) è associato ad una batteria 9cell da 48 Wh , mentre il 1900 (p4 2.0 nomobile) va con una 12 celle da 87 Wh....so veri sti numeri? (lo chiedo a chi è in posseso dei due pargoli)
