Ieri ti ho linkato un thread sul mandrake forum per la soluzione del problema...prova a vedere se risolvi.Ti faccio il copia/incolla

I metodo)
1) You need to download Alcatel driver mgmt.o
before installing Mandrake 8.2. Download
speedmgmt.tar.gz from Acatel website and stick this
on a floppy.

2) Install Mandrake Linux 8.2. Do not install ADSL
just yet. Let it finish and reboot.

3) Log in as root. Stick your floppy in the drive and
extract mgmt.o to the directory /usr/share/speedtouch

4) Now run Mandrake Control Center to configure
the ADSL connection (Network&Internet -> Connection)
Start Wizard, then uncheck autodetection, and then
check ADSL connection.

5) setup your ADSL account information
--------------------------------------------------

At this point, your ADSL speedtouch modem should
be installed successfully.

If you are having problems, there are two things to
check,
1) make sure your mandrake installation disk
is in your CDROM drive throughout the wizard.
2) Mandrake Control Center have a tendency to
reset the modem settings. Try open /etc/ppp/adsl
and change "... -vpi -vci" to "... -vpi 0 -vci 38"
for UK, and appropriate values for other countries.

In italia sono vpi=8 vci=35

II metodo)C'è un settaggio in più
Configure your ADSL connection from within the Mandrake Control Center, but don't test it.
Ammend your '/etc/ppp/peers/adsl' file to include the correct -vpi/-vci values and at the bottom insert the correct user name.

Open System - Services in Mandrake Control Center and turn off hardrake and kudzu, because during the boot process they will undo the changes you just made* (but I'm not sure which one is the culprit), therefore preventing your connection from ever working.

Reboot.

Everything should now be sorted.
