View Full Version : Benchmarks e TDP (Thermal Design Power) delle GPU

Salve a tutti ho pensato di aprire questo thread dato che sto vedendo sempre più gente chiedere di laptop sottili e leggeri ma con hardware molto potente (gtx1070/gtx1080) spesso senza essere al corrente delle conseguenze che un hardware del genere possa avere in termini di dissipazione del calore sul laptop. Meglio mettere insieme qualche info sul tema giusto per fare degli acquisti consapevoli:)

Quando i produttori progettano un laptop che deve accogliere un certo hardware, che ha bisogno di essere raffreddato per funzionare a dovere, provvedono a creare un sistema di raffreddamento spesso costituito da heatsink, heatpipes e ventole.

Il sistema di dissipazione sfrutta la trasmissione del calore fra corpi a differente temperatura e nello specifico l'elemento caldo è costituito da una piastra metallica a contatto con il chip (cpu o gpu) e l'elemento freddo è il radiatore attraversato dal flusso d'aria prodotto dalla ventola
e fra i due gli heatpipes consentono il passaggio del calore

Per il dimensionamento del sistema di raffreddamento essi fanno riferimento a delle specifiche che il produttore del componente (Intel, Nvidia, AMD e altri) fornisce loro e in particolare al TDP. Che significa TDP? E' il Thermal Design Power e stabilisce una misura di massima di quanto calore ci si deve aspettare di dover estrarre dal componente. L'ammontare di calore estraibile nel tempo è funzione delle superfici, degli spessori e delle masse dell'heatsink e questo per dire che una gpu potente ha bisogno di un sistema di dissipazione ben costruito e ben dimensionato e per fare ciò non c'è abbastanza spazio per esso in un laptop sottile e leggero. La maggiore conseguenza di una sistema di dissipazione non adeguato è che le temperature sui componenti e sullo chassis salgono e si va incontro al thermal throttling che causa un decremento delle prestazioni.
Un'altra conseguenza dei continui surriscaldamenti potrebbero essere dei guasti all'hardware. Cercando di non entrare troppo nello specifico i chip della gpu e della cpu sono fissato sul pcb della motherboard grazie a delle sferule metalliche che riscaldate si sciolgono e creano un contatto elettrico permanente

Durante l'intera vita della gpu il suo il chip lavorando produce calore, che dovrebbe essere in gran parte dissipato dal heatsink del sistema di dissipazione, ma che stressa i contatti comunque con dei cicli di riscaldamento raffreddamento, i quali provocano l'espansione e il ritrarsi del metallo, e producono delle cricche da fatica termica e si può arrivare al caso in cui la gpu si dissalda dal pcb. Il calore inoltre fa degradare i materiali polimerici che costituiscono il pcb e anche in questo caso si può andare incontro a guasti.

se il laptop ha l'optimus in automatico va a staccare la dgpu quando non serve e attiva la igpu del processore e questo è proprio il caso di office

ovviamente più alto è il punteggio e meglio è ai fini delle performance in gioco:)
questo per dire che avere un laptop con la gtx1070 di per se non significa proprio nulla perchè poi la gpu può performare in maniera molto differente da modello a modello e ciò dipende da come viene implementata sul sistema dal produttore del laptop e anche dalla cpu, dal sistema di dissipazione e dal vbios che ne gestisce il limite del TDP
