Kali Linux 2.0 - Problemi con stampante MFC-L2700DN

Ho provato ad installare la stampante MFC-L2700DN (Brother) sul sistema operativo Kali Linux 2.0.
L'installazione sembra essere andata a buon fine: il software funziona, si aprono anche le finestre di stato, in alto al centro dello schermo, che mi descrivono le varie fasi di lavoro della stampante (in stampa, stampa completata), ma la stampante non ne vuole sapere di stampare.
Per la gestione della stampante ho utilizzato "CUPS" e la sequenza dei comandi da terminale è stata questa:

- apt-get clean && apt-get update && apt-get upgrade;

- apt-get install cups cups-client "foomatic-db";

- adduser root lpadmin;

A questo punto ho resettato il S.O. e quando pronto, ancora da terminale:

- /etc/init.d/cups start;
l'output del terminale è questo: "[ ok ] Starting cups (via systemctl): cups.service".

A questo punto apro Mozilla e nella barra degli indirizzi digito: localhost:631;

Nella sezione "CUPS for Administrators" clicco su "Adding Printers and Classes" -> "Add Printer" e nella sezione Add Printer della nuova schermata seleziono la mia stampante "local printers: Brother MFC-L2700DN series (Brother MFC-L2700DN series)",

Seguo il resto delle istruzioni e chiudo.

Apro "Impostazioni" -> "Stampanti" e trovo la mia stampante installata.

Ma quando clicco "Stampa pagina di prova", il comando viene eseguito ma la stampante NON STAMPA!!!

Perchè la stampante non funziona?
Specifico che con Win10 funziona benissimo!!!

Si, certamente!!! Niente da fare.
Dal browser, in CUPS, lo spooler è attivo. Ho provato a dare un comando di stampa a stampante spenta, gli jobs restano nello spooler fino a quando non riaccendo la stampante.
Quando riaccendo la stampante, lo spooler si svuota ma la stampante non stampa.

Ho provato anche con OpenOffice, con Leafpad, niente da fare.

Sto pensando di reinstallare Kali Linux con stampante accesa, ma vorrei prima cercare di risolvere il problema con metodi meno indolore.

Scusa, ma "fenice" non è il nome del mio dispositivo? Quando faccio il login al sistema il nome utente è "root". Comunque ho dato il comando e mi dice che "fenice" non è un utente. Ho provato anche a dare il comando: "sudo adduser root lp", niente di niente; la stampante non stampa.

Il device è di tipo usb: "usb://Brother/MFC-L2700DN%20series?serial=E75879A6N198779".

Si ha anche la funzione "fax" oltre a "copia" e "scan", ma quando tento di utilizzarla è su "copia".

Nella prima installazione del "Driver Install Tool" ho commesso l'errore di usare il comando "bash linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1 MFC-L2700DN" senza mettere la parolina magica "sudo" prima del comando stesso.
Ho ripetuto alla lettera la procedura d'installazione e la stampante adesso funziona.

Il mio errore di base è stato quello di ritenere che, loggandomi come "utente root", avessi già i diritti di amministratore; cosa che evidentemente non è vera per alcune tipologie di installazioni.

Questa distro ha uno strumento per l'analisi di protocolli di rete, cioè Wireshark.
E' utilissimo in particolar modo per l'analisi di software di comunicazione e per la didattica.

Che distro consiglieresti ad neofita di linux come me?

Le classiche Ubuntu (e derivate: Xubuntu, Ubuntu mate, ecc.) e Linux Mint.

Per quanto riguarda le distro rivolte alla sicurezza, ti segnalo Parrot OS (progetto italiano!!! :D ) che da quanto letto in giro è usabile anche per tutti i giorni (senza configurazioni aggiuntive) al contrario di kali che ha bisogno di varie configurazioni.

Se usi solo wireshark ti consiglio una distro tra le classiche (ubuntu o mint) e di installarci tale software.
