La differente denominazione (MD3000 e MD3000i) fa riferimento al tipo di controller che viene installato nell'enclosure: se si utilizzano i controller SAS, l'apparato è un DAS e viene denominato MD3000; se invece si utilizzano i controller iSCSI, l'apparato è una vera e propria SAN e viene denominato MD3000i. In entrambi i casi l'apparato è completamente ridondante. Se collegato come DAS al PERC 5/E, si possono configurare i dischi in RAID 0/1/5/10/50. Con il controller PERC 6/E, sono possibili i livelli 0/1/5/6/10/50/60. Se collegato come SAN attraverso iSCSI, si possono configurare i dischi in RAID 0/1/5/6/10.
Vendo sia il doppio controller SAS (e i controller PCIe da installare nel server) sia il doppio controller iSCSI, così l'acquirente potrà configurare l'apparato nella maniera che meglio si adatta alle sue necessità.
L'enclosure MD1000 può essere utilizzata come espansione dell'MD3000i oppure come DAS, autonomamente.
Il tutto è visibile a Mercato San Severino.
Posso spedire ma preciso che gli apparati, assieme, pesano almeno 60 kg e sarebbe necessario un pallet.
Valuto la vendita a pezzi solo se riesco a collocare tutto.
Il prezzo del blocco è 2.300 euro.

Compariamo un NAS e l'MD3000i (in configurazione iSCSI).
I pro del NAS (rispetto all'MD) sono:
il costo per Gb, impiegando dischi SATA da 3 Gb rispetto ai SAS 15k o 10k oppure ai SATA compresi nella HCL di Dell, che devono montare un adattatore e il caddy
la flessibilità, perché, oltre a poterlo utilizzare come target iSCSI, include app di tutti i tipi (download station, videosorveglianza, mail server, ecc)
I contro del NAS (sempre rispetto all'MD) si riassumono nell'affidabilità complessiva.
Il nas ha un solo alimentatore (a meno di non confrontare le soluzioni rack che hanno costi decisamente elevati e sono introvabili sul mercato dell'usato)
Il nas ha un solo controller, una sola scheda madre, mentre il DELL ne ha due che funzionano in modalità active-active, con il mirroring anche della cache BBU dei controller.
Naturalmente, ogni apparato è adatto ad un impiego specifico e la scelta deve essere ponderata su una miriade di fattori (consumi, spazio, rumorosità, costo al Gb, ecc).
Se l'obiettivo è la sicurezza dei dati E il servizio no stop, credo che sia opportuno considerare un apparato del genere.
Il discorso, naturalmente, è vero anche nella configurazione dell'MD3000 con il doppio controller SAS. Qui esempi di come è possibile collegarlo:
