Kernel Panic!!

usando il modulo pctel, ecco l'output che mi dà quando gli dò "modprobe ptserial"
AC97 modem device found: devnum = 80001600, devid = 1039/7013
iobase_0=0xc400, iobase_1=0xc000,irq=10
PCTel driver version 0.9.2 [5.05c-4.27.215 (09-14-2001)] (MR) (2002-01-31) with MANY_PORTS SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI AUDIO_ROUTING[SIS540] enabled.
PCTel driver built on [Linux 2.4.18 i686 unknown "2.4.18 <132114>"] with gcc-2.95.4.
ttyS15 at 0xc400 (irq = 10) is a PCTel
PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:02.6
PCI: Sharing IRQ 10 with 00:0d.0
sembrerebbe tutto ok... se non che wvdialconf mi dà il seguente output:
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.
Port Scan<*1>: Scanning ttyS15 first, /dev/modem is a link to it.
ttyS15<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 4800 baud
ttyS15<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 4800 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS15<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 19200 baud
ttyS15<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 19200 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS15<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.
riporto qui il device che mi ha creato per ttyS15, magari c'è qualche errore lì:
crw-rw-rw- 1 root dialout 62, 79 giu 2 16:48 /dev/ttyS15
qualche suggerimento? :) (a parte buttar via il modem ;) )
PS non ho audio AC97 integrato abilitato, quindi non dovrebbero esserci conflitti...
