Dove?

Steam Workshop Highlight: Napoleonic Europe
December 3, 2014 Kieffer Bryant Uncategorized

If you don’t know, now you know: Rise of Nations: Extended Edition is now fully compatible with the Steam Workshop! Try one of over one thousand free user-created mods, be it a fun custom scenario, new taunts, or a texture pack. Today, we’ll be highlighting a custom scenario about Napoleon.

Rise of Nations: Extended Edition includes a powerful map editor allowing users to create their own custom scenarios and maps. Steam user [FOG] Valladarex used it to recreate history with Napoleonic Europe.

Set in the Enlightenment Era during the height of Napoleon’s reign, will you rewrite history? Choose to play as Napoleon’s France, or conquer it as Britain, the Ottoman Empire, Spain, Russia, Austria, the Kingdom of Prussia, or Scandinavia.

If you’re a fan of custom scenarios set in history, you’ll love the others made by the author, [FOG] Valladarex. Check out all of his Rise of Nations: Extended Edition Workshop items here.

Come back next week when we showcase another Steam Workshop item made by you, the community!

-- tramite client>libreria>selezionil gioco> e c'è l'opzione sfoglia il workshop;
o
-- tramite browser, ecco il link del workshop di rise of nations;
- cercando trovi e clicchi sul mod che ti interessa;
- nella scheda del mod c'è un grosso tasto verde "sottoscrivi", cliccaci;

Steam Workshop Highlight: Ozhara’s RoN Terrain Pack v1
January 7, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Steam Workshop Highlight

Happy New Year, everyone! We’re back from the holiday break, and it’s time to restart our regular cadence of content. Let’s kick it off with a new Steam Workshop highlight.

For those of you familiar with the Age of Empires II: HD Edition or Age of Mythology: Extended Edition Steam Workshop, you’ll most likely recognize the author of this mod, Ozhara. I’ve shone the spotlight on much of his work for those games, and it looks as though he’s taken his talents to Rise of Nations.

Although he describes this mod as a work in progress, this terrain pack is already very impressive. Currently, this mod changes the following:

Arctic terrain set main terrain textures
Great Sahara desert terrain set main terrain textures
Snowy terrain set main terrain textures
Southwest Mesa desert terrain set main terrain textures

Here’s a screenshot of what the Great Sahara terrain looks like:

link immagine: http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/ad/e4/e2/ade4e23b296f7805361aefc7f9f8cffa.jpg

If you’re getting bored of the default textures and would like to try something different, download Ozhara’s RoN Terrain Pack v1 for free from the Steam Workshop here.

We’ll spotlight another Steam Workshop mod next week, so stayed tuned. As always, until then, GLHF!

Approfondimento (in inglese) sui Cinesi:

blog.riseofnations.com/nation-spotlight-the-chinese/
Nation Spotlight: The Chinese
January 8, 2015 Kieffer Bryant

Welcome back to another Nation Spotlight, where we take a closer look at the civilizations available in Rise of Nations. Let’s examine the Chinese and the unique abilities that make them such a defensive and economic powerhouse.

http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/5b/44/6a/5b446a8029d01d9bb92ffd1071a544ec.jpg

The Chinese were available right from the start as one of the nations available in the original game. They possess the Power of Culture, which provides excellent economic advantages. All Chinese cities, including their first one, start as Large Cities, which have over double the hitpoints of a regular city, as well as additional armor, garrison ability, and line of sight. This alone makes trying to eliminate China in the early game a daunting task, as capturing a Large City is no easy feat, especially with weak early units.

In addition, Chinese players can build their citizens, merchants, and caravans instantly. Science research at the Library is 20% cheaper, and Herbal Lore, Medicine, and Pharmaceuticals (upgrades from the Granary) are free.

In addition to their powerful passive traits, the Chinese can build robust unique infantry. True to history, the Chinese can build the earliest gunpowder unit, the Fire Lance, before they reach the Gunpowder Age! Their infantry only get scarier from there: Heavy Fire Lances have a significant range advantage over normal infantry of that age, and Manchu troops can be easily massed, as they are cheap and quick to train.

With the Power of Culture making economic booming so easy, as well as very spammable infantry, expect Chinese players to rapidly expand and quickly progress through the tech tree. Make sure to slow them down before it’s too late!

Are you interested in learning more about the Chinese? Check out their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki at http://riseofnations.wikia.com/wiki/Chinese.

We’d love to hear your strategies unique to playing as or against the Chinese. Share them in the comments below!

Community Blog: 40 Strategy Tips for the Beginner from Heaven Games
January 14, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Uncategorized

Good afternoon from Microsoft Studios in Redmond, WA! Are you a new Rise of Nations player, or simply looking to improve your game? Rise of Nations community site HeavenGames has some great tips for you!

http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/c2/e8/dd/c2e8dd7e3f1b3dae521d2a8fa1a768f7.jpg

Get your second city up fast, but don’t sacrifice a good position for speed. You’re going to be stuck with that city for a while, so make it count!
The Tab key is your friend! Tab cycles through all possible upgrades available to research, saving you a lot of time compared to clicking on each individual building.
Be a good teammate and don’t hog all the resources. If mountains are scarce and you have all of them in your territory, be prepared to share and allow your teammates to build near you.
Construct observation towers near your borders to keep an eye on opponents potentially forward-building their military production facilities or forts. Observation towers also illuminate spies and, as an added bonus, convert to Air Defenses later in the game.
Get refineries up as soon as possible, as they affect oil income from all oil wells.
Use your generals! At the very least, use decoys to soak up a few free hits during battle. If you’re fighting in your own territory, the entrench ability is also very handy.

All of the above tips are from HeavenGames. For the full list of 40 Strategy Tips for the Beginner, visit http://ron.heavengames.com/library/strategy/aorbrem40tips.shtml.

What is one piece of advice you wish you would have known when you first started playing Rise of Nations? Share it in the comments below!

Nation Spotlight: The Mongols
January 16, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

Good evening from RoN HQ here in sunny Redmond, WA! As someone who works for Age of Empires as well as Rise of Nations, the next nation under the spotlight holds a special place in my heart: the Mongols.

http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/originals/cc/26/f6/cc26f64805e18129969c515690155f84.jpg

As you might expect of a nation based off their real historical counterparts, the Mongols are primarily an offensive civilization. One of the eighteen nations available in the original game, the Mongols harness the Power of the Horde, providing them with several unique traits that aid their offensive abilities.

When you’re planning on being aggressive, you’ll want have plenty of production facilities on hand. This synergizes extremely well with one of the Mongols’ unique abilities: each Stable or Auto Plant built provides free ranged cavalry units equal to how many military technologies you’ve researched from the library. For example, if you’ve researched Standing Army (the third military upgrade), you’ll receive three free ranged cavalry units per Stable built! Mounted units created from those production facilities are 10% cheaper and train 20% faster.

Mongol players are also rewarded for controlling large swathes of territory: you’ll receive +1 food for each 1% of world landmass controlled times half the number of nations. Invading that new territory is much easier for the Mongols, considering that their units take 50% reduced attrition damage. Lastly, the Smelter technologies Forage, Supply, and Logistics are free.

Speaking of ranged cavalry, the Mongols’ unique units replace the standard Horse Archer with their own variants: the Nomad, Steppe Nomad, Horde, and Golden Horde. Each have additional health as well as an attack bonus against light infantry.

The Mongols are a scary nation to play against. Expect to be raided early and often, so position your military units to protect your economy or expect to resign early!

If you’d like to read more about the mighty Mongols, see their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki at http://riseofnations.wikia.com/wiki/Mongols.

Do you think the Mongols are the best offensive nation in the game? Why or why not? Tell us in the comments below!

Un altro approfondimento, questa volta sui Turch:
http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=42027549

Nation Spotlight: The Turks
February 12, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

Good afternoon, Rise of Nationites! Are you a relentlessly offensive-minded player, constantly moving into enemy territory to capture cities? If so, you’re probably familiar with the next nation under the spotlight: the mighty Turks.

http://compass.xboxlive.com/assets/3a/b4/3ab48cba-ac3a-483a-8efd-ea70faf28e2d.jpg

One of the eighteen civilizations available in the original game, The Turks harness the Power of Siege, using strong long-range weapons to besiege and assimilate enemy territory. Let’s examine their unique traits and units that make them such a strong mid to late-game force.

Sieging the enemy from a safe distance is always ideal, and playing as the Turks makes this even easier, as all bombardment ships, siege units, and artillery units receive an additional three tiles worth of range and line of sight. Getting those units trained, upgraded, and on the battlefield is also easier, as you receive two free siege units with every new siege factory or factory as well as free siege upgrades.

For as good as their unique offensive traits are, the Turks make for a great economic choice as well. Both citizens and military library research are 33% cheaper, allowing you to advance through the Ages to reach your powerful unique siege and infantry units faster. Conquered cities will assimilate 200% faster as well, yielding their additional economic benefits faster than all other nations.

The Rise of Nations wiki has some great advice on how to play the Turks efficiently:

“The Turks are a warlike nation and meant to be played very aggressively. Many of their bonuses revolve around capturing cities, so this is what you should focus on. Research into the Classical Age as soon as possible to be able to build siege weapons and get the despot patriot. Build up an army very early and attack your nearest neighbor. Meanwhile, harass the enemy using your long-range siege weapons. When you have captured a city, order a few citizens to do the repairs and proceed to the next target. Rinse and repeat until winning either by defeat or a territory victory.”

If you’d like to read more about the Turks, visit their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki at http://riseofnations.wikia.com/wiki/Turks.

Approfondimento sui Nubiani:
http://blog.riseofnations.com/nation-spotlight-the-nubians/
Nation Spotlight: The Nubians
February 19, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on one of, if not the best, economic nations in the game: the Nubians.

http://compass.xboxlive.com/assets/41/c7/41c7cbdf-0bff-4887-afdb-a9d950c4a134.jpg

Among the original eighteen nations in the original game, the Nubians possess the Power of Trade, allowing players to take full advantage of the market for big economic gains. Let’s take a closer look at the abilities unique to the Nubians that make them such a strong force to be reckoned with.

Most players are aware that they can buy and sell resources in the market, but did you know that the prices fluctuate based on supply and demand? Nubian players don’t have to worry about that: they can always buy and sell resources with a +20/-20 price bonus. Getting the gold to buy those resources is even easier, as their caravan limit is increased by 1, and players start with a market for free!

Those aren’t the only tricks the Nubians have up their sleeve. We all know how important it is to lock down rare resources. Nubian players can not only see all rare resources in their territory from the start of the game without having to advance through the Ages to unlock more, but merchants yield an extra 50% resources from them in allied territory! Destroying those merchants is difficult for opponents as well, as merchants, caravans, and markets all have 50% hit points (as well as cost 50% less).

Although they are more known for their economic strengths, the Nubians are able to train unique units as well. From the Classical Age on, they can train both anti-ranged archers as well as ranged cavalry units. From camel archers in the Classical Age to camel corps in the Enlightenment Age, these camel units can decimate enemy economies through raiding, as they can fire while moving.

If you’d like to read more about the Nubians, see their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki.

Are the Nubians the best economic nation in the game? Why or why not? What strategies do you employ when playing them? Let us know in the comments below!

Approfondimento sui tedeschi:
http://blog.riseofnations.com/nation-spotlight-the-germans/

Nation Spotlight: The Germans
March 13, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

Greetings from Rise of Nations HQ! We’re closing in on the halfway mark of shining the spotlight on all nations available in Rise of Nations: Extended Edition, so let’s continue the series and talk about the industrial Germans.

http://i.imgur.com/X3KDYJy.jpg

Available as one of the original eighteen nations in Rise of Nations, the Germans harness the Power of Industry, making them both an offensive and economic force to be reckoned with. Players have cheaper (50%) granary, lumber mill, and smelter production upgrades, and can research those upgrades sooner. The Germans get extra resources in a variety of ways, too, including extra (+5) food, timber, and metal from cities, as well as an additional 50% bonus when a resource-gathering building is constructed.

The bonuses don’t stop at their economy: German players can look forward to training fire ships and submarines 33% faster and 25% cheaper, training all air units 33% faster, and receiving two free fighters with each new airbase!

While some nations only get their unique units in one or two Ages, the Germans have something unique in just about every Age: unique heavy infantry units are available in the Ancient, Classical Medieval, Gunpowder, and Modern Ages. Of course, the Germans in any strategy game wouldn’t be complete without their trademark Tiger and Leopard tanks, available in the Modern and Information Ages, respectively.

If you’d like to read more about the Germans, see their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki.

How would you rank the Germans among the other nations in the game? Do you employ any particular strategies when playing as the Germans? Let us know in the comments below!

Nation Spotlight: The Spanish
March 26, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

Greetings from Rise of Nations HQ! Nation Spotlight is a feature where we take a closer look at the nations playable in Rise of Nations to discuss their strengths and unique strategies. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on the Spanish.

Available as one of the original eighteen nations, the Spanish possess the Power of Discovery, giving them unique economic advantages. You’ll see two very obvious differences when starting a game with the Spanish: the entire map is revealed from the start, and you begin with an extra scout. Putting those scouts to work right away can be very lucrative, as looting ruins will net you 30 resources with an extra +26 per science level researched. You’ll also see all rare resources, so be sure to train those merchants!

Spanish bonuses don’t stop there: their scouts receive free upgrades and use their abilities faster, and constructing a dock yields a free heavy ship before the Industrial Age. When playing on a water map, be sure to construct the bulk of the docks you’ll need before hitting the Industrial Age to take advantage of the free units.

As for their unique units, it’s very unwise to build cavalry against the Spanish: Scutari and Tercios infantry are extremely effective against mounted units, and can be trained starting in the Classical Age. With a robust economy from their other bonuses, the Spanish are well-equipped to train just about any army composition.

If you’d like to read more about the Spanish, see their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki.

What are some of the strategies you employ when playing as the Spanish? How do you go about defeating them? Let us know in the comments below!

Nation Spotlight: The Greeks
April 3, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

Welcome back to another Nation Spotlight, where we take a closer look at a civilization playable in Rise of Nations and examine its strengths, weaknesses, and unique tactics. This week, we’re going way back to the dawn of reasoning: ancient Greece.

Available as one of the eighteen nations available in the original game, The Greeks possess the Power of Philosophy, which allows players to research library techs 100% faster and 10% cheaper. Universities can be built from the start of the game, and both universities and libraries are 66% cheaper.

This inexpensive and rapid advancement through technology allows Greek players to employ just about any strategy successfully, be it economic, aggressive, or defensive. The Greeks will nearly always be ahead in library tech, which opens up tech paths for any playstyle, making them an extremely versatile nation.

As for unique units, Greek players may train powerful heavy cavalry from the Classical through Enlightenment Ages. These units are faster than normal heavy cavalry, making the Companion, Royal Companion, Stratiotai, and Royal Stratiotai potent raiding forces.

If you would like to reach more about The Greeks, read through their entry on the Rise of Nations wiki.

We’d love to hear what your strategies are when playing as the flexible Greeks. What do you focus on when warring against them? Tell us all about it in the comments below!

I Francesi:

Nation Spotlight: The French
April 11, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

It’s time for another Nation Spotlight, a feature that highlights one of the playable nations in Rise of Nations and examines their strengths, weaknesses, and unique abilities. This week, we’re showcasing one of the offensive powerhouses: the French.

Available as one of the original eighteen nations in Rise of Nations, the French harness the Power of Leadership, giving players a multitude of unique offensive abilities, allowing them to go forth and conquer all who oppose them.

French players have some exciting bonuses to look forward to, including starting games with a free lumber mill and receiving free upgrades from it, getting two additional citizen slots in woodcutter’s camps, and a +10% timber commerce limit. These economic bonuses are enough to set the French up to employ many different strategies, but offensive play is where they really shine.

Need proof? French players receive a free general each time a new fort, castle, fortress, or redoubt is constructed, which provide a number of powerful bonuses to nearby troops. Not enough? How about this: supply wagons heal your troops, and French players receive a free supply wagon each time a siege factory or factory is constructed. Not only that, but units from those siege factories and factories are 25% less expensive and trained 50% faster. They also move faster.

As for unique units, like the Greeks (the last nation under the Nation Spotlight), the French also command powerful heavy cavalry units. From the chevalier to the grenadier, these mounted units are stronger, tougher, and faster than ordinary heavy cavalry, making them potent raiding units, or robust front-of-line meat shield units.

If you’d like to learn more about the French, you can read their entry of the Rise of Nations wiki.

Nation Spotlight: The Bantu
April 17, 2015 Kieffer Bryant Nation Spotlight

Greetings, Rise of Nations fans! This week, we’re continuing the trend of highlighting offensive civilizations by shining the Nation Spotlight on the Bantu. Let’s take a look at the unique units and abilities available to the mighty African nation.

The Bantu employ the Power of Migration, which provide several very interesting bonuses. Does the thought of huge throngs of infantry racing across the battlefield towards your enemies sound exciting? If so, you’ll love what the Bantu can do.

Several of their bonuses allow the Bantu to quickly reach maximum population, and then some! Bantu players receive +1 to their City Limit (after Civic Level 1 is researched) in addition to constructing Cities 75% cheaper. They also receive +100% to total Population Limit, and may exceed that maximum limit by 25%!

The biggest question you’ll have to ask yourself when playing as the Bantu is, “What do I train to use up all this extra population?” You might consider answering that with “Infantry!” as all Infantry units, Scouts, and Citizens move 25% faster. Regardless of what you end up choosing, note that all Bantu unit upgrades do not require the usual Military Research to unlock; you simply need to advance in Age.

While some nations’ unique units only shine in certain parts of the game, the Bantu can train powerful forces from the Ancient through Information Ages. Bantu players can unleash deadly Umpakati or Impi: fast, cheap, and short-ranged light infantry, stronger and faster to train than their Slinger counterparts. Later on in the game, the Bantu can control the skies with the Hawk and Eagle Fighters, which are more powerful against enemy aircraft and ground troops than normal Fighters.
