Warranty Card+Semi-Glossy Coating: The Asus VG23AH is the ONLY semi-glossy IPS under 24"
QUI UNA AUTOREVOLE RECENSIONE (http://postimage.org/)
E Questa la conclusione:
The Asus VG23AH is hands down the best monitor I have ever reviewed & owned in terms of overall performance & pricing. The colour presets are essentially perfect and the image quality the Asus VG23AH offers is pretty much as good as IPS panels can get in terms of colour quality, contrast/black levels & viewing angles. The 60hz motion is nearly perfect: the VG23AH is one of the, if not the fastest 60hz display I have used. The input lag is extremely low, only gamers who come from CRT's with high refresh rates & low input lag 120hz TN's will avoid this display. It also supports up to 76hz with custom timings. When 72hz is enabled you can get smoother movie playback as well as less motion blur & an over all smoother feeling experience.
The VG23AH's main fault is Asus's pure failure to include proper instructions regarding the use of Passive 3D with PC's & the extremely restrictive Passive 3D Viewing Area. The User Manual is completely useless, I had to browse forums to find out how to use the VG23AH's 3D properly. Asus also fails to mention the fact that you need to buy the Tri-Def 3D software to play games in 3D. Tri-Def 3D costs 50$.
The Passive 3D is actually very good, but it is imperative that one uses the right settings and sets the Trace Free (overdrive) to 0 which eliminates the ghosting.
Passive 3D is noticeably not as sharp as Nvidia 3D (Passive 1920x540 vs 1920x 1080), games aren't as well optimized & one must sit within the optimal viewing area which in my opinion is to far away.
The IPS viewing angle dominance ends when comparing a Passive 3D IPS to a Nvidia 3D TN. One can sit as close as they like to a Nvidia 3D/AMD 3D TN panel. One has to sit around 90 cm/3 ft away to reduce cross-talk & get the full 3D effect.
With Nvidia/AMD 3D the height must accommodate TN panels strict vertical viewing angles. With a Passive 3D display the height is extremely important. A height adjustable chair is a must. I found that the VG23AH's Passive 3D works best when set to my head level.
Passive 3D's biggest issue lies in the very restrictive viewing angles. 90cm/3ft is simply too far a distance for an immersive experience, and depending on the depth of ones desk they may not actually be able enjoy the 3D properly. The distance is fine for displaying movies, one simply has to slide their chair back. If they lack a deep enough desk and are playing a game with only mouse & keyboard support, what are they to do?
A height adjustable chair is also a requirement since the height adjustable stand is not tall enough.
+Excellent contrast/black levels for a non VA panel (900-1000:1)
+Excellent Colour Presets, this display does not need to be calibrated
+Excellent Colours: The VG23AH has better default colours than every other display I have reviewed
+Excellent Ergonomics: Height adjustable Stand, swivelling base, 2x HDMI 1.4A, 1x DVI, 1x VGA, 1x 3.5mm Audio Port, Speakers, 2 pairs of 3D Glasses (1 is a clip on for people with glasses)
+Excellent value for an IPS panel of this quality @ 280$
+Excellent colours after calibration
+HDMI 1.4a x2 inputs for console 3D
+Excellent Response Time for a 60hz Display, almost no ghosting
+72hz Suport via Custom timings for smoother gaming & movie play back
+Excellent Colour stablity due to the IPS panel: No Gamma Shift=punchier colours across the entire display unlike TN & VA panels
+Excellent IPS Viewing panels
+Minimal IPS Glow
+Good Screen uniformity except on the lower left corner
+Excellent Xbox 360 & PS3 performance: No issues
+24hz Blu-Ray play back is supported on the PS3
-Red tint out of the box
-No instructions for getting the Passive 3D to work with PC Games or Movies
-Tri-Def 3D is required for PC gaming and costs 50$
-Minor ghosting in the form of over-shoot (bright/dark halo's forming around fast moving objects)
-Recycled Bezel: The VG23AH uses he same bezel as the 3 year old VH236H & 2 year old VG236H. It looks nice, but the bezel recycling is a transparent & lame cost cutting attempt
-Passive 3D-1920x540 Resolution: Due to the lower resolution Passive 3D is not quite as sharp as Nvidia 3D (1920x1080), and the loss of resolution is noticeable, but minimal on a 23" display
-Passive 3D Viewing Area is Extremely Demanding
-Very, very slight red tint after calibration
Now for the positives of Passive 3D
+Extremely Light Glasses which don't add a green tint like the Nvidia 3D glasses
+Glasses are cheap to replace if broken
+Passive 3D does not require as much horse power as Nvidia 3D. In Ghost Recon Future Soldier my frame rate stayed around 60fps with Passive 3D, and around 30 fps when using Nvidia 3D.
+The VG23AH has much better 3D colours since it uses an IPS panel
+Semi-Glossy Coating: There is far less of a noticeable screen door/grain effect on a Semi-Glossy display vs matte Nvidia 3D Display
+Passive 3D works with both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards
