Grazie per questi chiarimenti, e per tenere alta la suspance :D

dai che l'attesa e' bella, e a sesto senso questa volta Matrox si mettera' in conpetizione con gli altri due titani del gaming, quindi aspetto volentieri.
Penso che mai come adesso, il mercato delle schede video sia in fermento.
Per Natale avremo una lotta serratissima tra chip video, Hwupgrade avra' un bel lavoro da fare a recensire tutte ste schedozze che compariranno + o - nello stesso periodo.
Inutile dire che aspetto fine anno per l'upgrade.

Beh, se fosse una scheda con la qualità 2D della 550 e la potenza di una nVidia o i una ATI... (o superiore!!!) sarebbe fantastica!!!

Sono curioso anch'io.... ma l'attesa non mi ucciderà di certo! ;)

Matrox G1000 to be announced on the 14th? The honey unveiled!


It has been a long time since we last heard from Matrox Graphics. As we know, their latest G550 chip resembles its G400 that is now 3 years old. However, during a number of weeks a lot of rumours has been circulating around the Internet about Matrox coming with a brand new GPU. At first we did not believe the information as the year before we also heard of G600/800/1000 and nothing actually happened. Fortunately, this time the rumours seems to represent the truth – Matrox Graphics is really preparing the new chip called G1000 also known as code-named Parhelia.

We received quite a lot of information from different sources (Thanks to all who contacted me!) and now will try to summarize the information about the upcoming GPU G1000 and a typical videocard based on it:


-- 4 rendering pipelines with 4 TMU per each one;

-- DirectX 9 support. It also includes Pixel Shaders and Vertex Shaders 2.0 as well as all the other features of the new API from Microsoft such as Displacement Mapping and increased to 40-bit color-depth. Since DirectX 9 shaders require more power compared to the previous versions, the 4 vertex shaders pipelines will be implemented in the chip.

-- What is quite interesting, Matrox will introduce 512-bit 2D graphics core – a big leap forward in contrast to the modern graphics processors.

-- A typical videocard will be a Millenium G1000 and it will include 256 MB of DDR SDRAM memory. As with the 3Dlabs` P10, 256-bit bus-width will be used.

-- Of course, the GPU will have dual 400 MHz RAMDACs, support AGP 8X and other important features of a next-gen graphics processor.



We should mention that the chip is quite big – about 80 – 90 million of transistors. However, the one should run pretty fast in order to acheive the highest level of perfomance.
We want you to keep in mind that although the announcement will take place on the 14th of May, the Millenium G1000 will only be available 1 – 2 month later. The price is being determined, but it should be relatively high.

Spero che non sia la solita mossa Matrox che prima crea l'attesa per un chip che poi avrà prestazioni inferiori di tutti i suoi concorrenti (nel 3d ovviamente, nel 2d rimane imbattibile ;)). Tipo G200 per intenderci.

si sente parlare già da un pò di questa GPU, dovrebbe essere davvero potente... W matrox! :):) ho una g400 nel PC :P :P

Si, ma Matrox non credo abbia lavorato due (o tre?) anni per tirare fuori un G450 e un G550 che sono in parte copia perfetta del G400... Credo che questa volta ne vedremo delle belle, anche perchè Matrox trionfa già sul fronte della qualità grafica sia 2D che 3D, il che è un punto di forza non indifferente...
L'unica che può tenergli testa (sotto questo punto di vista) forse è ATI... Spero nel G1000... e spero che non avrà un costo eccessivo anche se ne dubito con quelle specifiche che circolano e considerando che Matrox esagera un pò forse nei prezzi, ma sono sicuro che ci varrà tutti i soldi di questo mondo...

A questo punto ci basta sapere che questa fantomatica scheda esiste e verra` commercializzata.
Del demo Matrox del displacement mapping dicono che sfodera una bella potenza... finalmente!

Secondo Reactorcritical, anche Matrox si stà accingendo a presentare un nuovo chip grafico appartenente alla generazione dei chip programmabili, il cui nome in codice pare sia Parhelia. Queste le caratteristiche presunte:

le specifiche sono state uno scherzo di aprile di matrox arrivato in ritardo ...................... mi spiace ma la notizia e' gia stata discussa anche su altri siti e ....... be bufalona galattica di matrox .

La bufalona era quella dei colori a 128bit... :D Questa è già un pò più reale, i 40bit sono effettivi nelle DirectX 9, quindi, considerando anche che secondo me non è possibile che in questi ultimi tre anni hanno lavorato al 450 e al 550, bè... io aspetto il 14, non è che costa qualcosa...

Matrox definitely have not been slacking off. They probably have their chip engineers working overtime on their latest G1000 chip, also known as Parhelia. There have been lots of information from different sources lately, which Reactor Crital sums up in this news post.
