Take heed, young adventurer, the living Castle Shadowgate is now re-opened!
“This is the ultimate version of Shadowgate that we’ve been envisioning for nearly 30 years! The game features tons of new puzzles to solve, a hugely expanded Castle Shadowgate, and gorgeous hand-painted graphics. There are plenty of nods to the original version, like the NES-inspired orchestral tracks and pixelated transitions, so fans of the MacVenture and NES versions will instantly recognize this as the ultimate successor to the classic. This is a huge moment for the team!” - Karl Roelofs, Design Director with Zojoi.
Come talk to us on the forums, tell your friends and above all enjoy your journey through Castle Shadowgate! We hope this is just one of many games that will be brought back to life!

Informazioni sul gioco
Shadowgate is one of the most well-known and beloved point-and-click adventure titles in gaming history. As one of the original titles in the popular MacVenture series that went on to be celebrated on the NES, GBC and Nintendo 64, Shadowgate quickly endeared players with its fantastic atmospheric soundtrack, perilous locations to progress through, countless puzzles to solve, and more ways to gruesomely die than gamers previously thought possible. Thrust into the role of "The Seed of Prophecy," players travel deep into the living castle, in hopes of defeating the evil that dwells within – the dreaded Warlock Lord.
Now, nearly 30 years after the original version haunted Mac and NES gamers, the original development team behind that timeless classic is back with a full re-imagining of the original Shadowgate. Much more than a port, the team at Zojoi has painstakingly redesigned the game from the ground up, adding in tons of new mind-bending puzzles, lots of new rooms with stunning hand-painted 2D graphical detail, and more objects to interact with and help you along your quest.
Decide how YOU want to play this new, re-imagined Shadowgate! Want the quintessential experience? Employ the Classic command system or turn on the retro soundtrack, text box, and room transitions. Want a more cinematic experience? Switch to Immersive mode by auto-hiding the UI and using customizable hotkeys to explore the castle. Or mix and match the options to satisfy your play style. In Shadowgate, there are plenty of new features and fun throwbacks to the original version to satisfy veteran adventurers and newcomers alike!

Key Features
First Person Adventuring: Utilize your inventory, mapping system and intuitive on-screen commands to complete your quest.
Rooms: Tons of beautifully illustrated rooms featuring both new and familiar locations, offering a new gameplay experience.
Puzzles: Lots of new and updated puzzles that seamlessly expand on the original game.
Difficulty Levels: Three different difficulty levels that actually change the gameplay experience and puzzle structure.
Customized UI: Play the way you want! Use classic on-screen commands or jump into Immersive mode and auto-hide the UI elements. Create key binds, lock commands and keys, and more.
Retro Mode: Play the game like it’s 1989! Listen to Hiroyuki Masuno’s original NES chip tunes, move between rooms with pixelated transitions, and enjoy the text in retro format.
Storytelling: Shadowgate features dramatic cut-scenes and all the same great storytelling you expect from the original creators.
Cinematic Score: A digitally-orchestrated, dynamic soundtrack that changes with gameplay by composer Rich Douglas.
Soundscapes: A complete atmospheric and puzzle-based sound design featuring hundreds of sound effects.
Achievements: 50 in-game and Steam-based achievements to find and unlock.
Animations: Environmental and object-specific animations and particles bring each location to life.
Help: Need a hint? An in-game help system is just a click away.

Però visto che non costa niente e l'immagine che hanno postato mi piace sto like gliel'ho dato (cosa che avrei fatto cmq se non fosse che dare like su facebook sono la mia ultima preoccupazione :asd:).

Update #45 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zojoi/shadowgate/posts/758934)Alpha

In between digging out of the big snows that have plagued the East Coast (we got over 16 inches a couple of weeks ago in central Virginia), we've been very productive this past month. We have reached our Alpha milestone!

This is huge because it means that every game play-related feature is in (in one form or another) and now we can concentrate on working toward our beta. It took a little longer than we expected but we’re pretty happy with the results!

Development

While there are tons of things that have been done, here are just a few of the bigger things we accomplished since our last update...

Darkness: This feature required all-hands on deck for implementation. It touched all aspects of the game: graphics, scripting, and PAC engine. Take a look at what Sarah has put together in the latest video update to see how this is looking. We are still tweaking this graphically.
Organizational Refactoring: Our programmers have refactored the structure of game files. This is so we can easily support the various difficulty levels, tutorial mode, localization into other languages, etc. More of an under the hood piece of work, but important nonetheless.
Animation Prefabs and Spawn Points: We have added spawn points to all the rooms so that differing animations can play as necessitated by the script. This allows us to share one animation or particle effect across multiple scenes without having to add it to every scene. A real savings on the footprint for each scene load.
Animations and particles: We continue to finalize our 2D animations and insert the particles effects that are needed for object specific interactions (like burning a burnable object) and various room ambiance (like fog and rain).

So now we move on toward our Beta Milestone and the full implementation of features that are only mostly in the game. This includes the following...

Achievements: The support for our in-game achievements is currently being added to the game engine. We need to then input this into the script where necessary and hook in the visual display of each on the achievement page. And of course, part of this process is to add the support hooks for external achievement systems like Steam.
Tutorial: While the design, xml script and assets are completed, we will be tying this together with the code (based upon the refactoring mentioned above) and begin testing it.
Visual/Audio Tweaks: We are going through the game and polishing all the animated sequences. This includes adding missing audio, tweaking animation durations, and adding delays so things sync up properly.
Play Test and Polish: Before we release the game to beta testers, we intend to play test and polish Shadowgate as much as possible to make it an awesome game.

We now have word that our game boxes have been cleared from the Port of Richmond. Talk about your slow boats! Hopefully we'll get our eyes on them soon!

And again, if you didn’t get your Humble key, contact us at contact@zojoi.com and we'll be sure to get that sorted out.

Lastly

We are thankful for the continued support you have shown for our small company. We know it’s taking longer to develop than we had hoped but with the addition of extra rooms and features, we feel that we are giving you a much better game. Feel free to drop us a line (or post a comment) and let us know what you think.

March Update! (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zojoi/shadowgate/posts/789467)Hey everyone,

It’s been another busy month working on Shadowgate. We imagine that you are just as anxious as we are to get the game released and, as we mentioned previously, we’re definitely working hard to get the game to beta – adding final features as well as doing a lot of bug fixes. Thank you so very much for your patience!!!

Development

Here are SOME of the things that we finished or are in the middle of working on this past month…

Achievement support is in (and ready to be hooked up to Steam) for all 24 possible achievements
A second pass has been done on all game text
Help screens are finalized
Tons of work on our 2D animations has been done (mostly monsters and such)
Hidden Death sequences have been redesigned for better functionality
Original NES music mode is now in the game (Yay!)
We revamped the tutorial framework completely and it is now in and the script is being tied to it
Additional torch, darkness and lighting level scripting has been added
The Hint framework is implemented and is being scripted
Secondary puzzles and quests are being polished
Additional room particles have been added
Burning effects (on any burnable object) is in
Spell effects are mostly complete
Lots and lots of bug fixes

New Stuff

Two additional things happened this month. First, we gave the Zojoi site (http://www.zojoi.com/) a complete makeover so feel free to check it out!

Second, and MUCH more important, we're now working with master painter Damian Audino (http://deerandfox.tumblr.com/)! Damian will continue the fine tradition of creating awesome art that our good friend Chris Cold started! We're THRILLED to have him and we’ll be talking more about what he's up to in coming months :) In the meantime, check out his amazing work here (http://deerandfox.tumblr.com/) and take a look at one of his recent paintings from the world of Shadowgate…

Rewards

The boxes came in a few weeks ago and they look great. We didn’t want to give Adept or higher backers a wimpy paper box so we created more of a boardgame style box that is perfect for displaying your favorite first-person adventure game! These will be individually numbered and we couldn't be happier with them!

Also, after a number of back and forths with the printer, the Art of Shadowgate soft and hardcovers are ready to print!

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/001/797/802/c996304edfcfae2635c84f1294ab3c2d_large.jpg

Thank you!

We very much appreciate you being patient with us. As we’ve said before, we are amazed at your support and just want to make the best game we can based on your generous backing!

July Update: Betas, Bugs and New features

Hi everyone,

Well, I'm happy to report that we are in the home stretch now. This last month has been insane. Let me take a guess at some of your questions and post some screen shots (we will post a video this month but Sarah is swamped atm with bug fix confirmations and other stuff.)

How long have you been in beta?
We launched a soft beta about 6 weeks ago but have been officially in beta for a month.

How is beta going?
Awesome! Approximately 600 people signed up for testing and we've probably received twice that in bug reports (that's a good thing.) As of yesterday, we do not have any Blocker or Critical bugs currently in the game and our dev team is posting new builds at least once a week with dozens (if not hundreds) of fixes.

Have you tested all three difficulty modes?
Not yet. We started with Expert (hardest) and last week we opened up Journeyman (medium) and tonight we will open up Apprentice (easy).

Are you implementing new features as well?
Yes! One of the great things about the beta process is that we get a TON of great ideas. This is how we determine if they get in. We review each suggestion and discuss it with the team. Because we have a date that we are trying to hit, we make the following decision:

Do it. Here we feel it's important enough to do for the game before release even tho we obviously feel there are bugs to get done as well.
Do a subset. While we like the bigger idea, it touches too many moving parts. We identify the issues that would make the biggest impact and do a partial implementation.
Do it later. We like the feature but it is not critical for release and we will add it after it ships and patch the game.
Do it in the sequel. We like this feature but doing it now would be a hack and it would take too long to implement correctly.
Shelve it. We like the idea but think it needs a lot more thought so we will think about it more.

Can you give us some examples?
Sure! Here is a small list of things that we have added...

Retro mode is now more than just audio
You can set Quick-Use keys (0-9) and bind them to an inventory or UI object for easy use
More Inventory tabs to keep track of objects easier
Tons and tons of additional sound effects
Ability to quick-save a game
Ability to store (or delete) as many games as you want
More key binds
Added another 5 steam-based and game-based achievements (50 total!)
Rooms become lighter/darker depending on your UI torch (or room light sources)
Interactive tutorial

I'm an NES/GBC fan. Tell me more about the retro game enhancements.
Two years ago, we contacted KEMCO, the company that took our game and ported it to the NES and GBC, to get permission to use the NES music. Last week, we decided to drop the original death screen into this build for fun. At the same time, our programmers surprised us with a few new features that made us grin. Here’s what they did:

The options screen now has three checkboxes (Retro text, Retro music, Retro graphics). You can turn these on or off at any time.
The text in the text box comes up one letter at a time, pulled by a moving quill - just like in the NES version.
We've already mentioned the music- It's Hiroyuki Masuno's memorable soundtrack.
For graphics, a special pixelated filter has been applied to the scene, rendering everything in the room as if it is was made in 8-bit graphics. While the filter isn't currently applied to the inventory objects, it’s a ton of fun to walk thru the rooms and watch 8 bit torches burn.

What's left on the list of things you need to do?
Well, outside of bug fixes, here is a short list:

We are still tweaking animations
We are still adding sfx and a few music bits
Balancing game play (especially counters: torches, end game, curses, etc.)

Okay, the big question... when does the game ship?
Barring any unforeseen event, we will be shipping next month! We will announce the date next week after the testers have gotten a chance to beat on easy mode.

That's it for now. Some screenshots are below (although pixilated mode is a little hard to see). Again, we'll post a video when Sarah comes up for air. If you still want in on the beta and you pledged $30 or more, just go here ('http://www.zojoi.com/backer-beta-signup/'). And, we're never to busy to answer your questions. Just email us at contact@zojoi.com.

Thanks!
