I scusiamo per non parlare italiano!

I moved recently to Milan and installed Alice 20 Mega. However im not at all satisfied with the modem they provided:
- Really buggy connection over wireless
- weak signal of the wireless
- Its locked and unable to turn on PPPoE, so i have to do it manually each time windows starts
- Overall feels like a very poor modem

My question:
It seems possible to change to modem provided my by Alice with another one. From what i read Linksys WAG160N seems a good choice.
1. What do i need to know (setting perhaps) before i change it? I am quite proficient with PC, but my knowledge with dsl modems is average.
I understand they could be articles and discussions on the topic, but i havent managed to find a lot, due to me unable to speak italian.
2. Any suggestions on a other good dsl modem + wireless, etc besides the Linksys WAG160N?

Grazie milla!!!

It seems possible to change to modem provided my by Alice with another one.

If you subscribed VoIP service on Alice dsl line you cannot change your modem because VoIP service will stop working (it only work with Alice VoIP modems).

To solve wireless weakness problem you can simply add an Access Point to your network.

Regarding PPPoE and locked configuration, as far as I know, Alice locked VoIP modems can be remotely re-configured by Telecom Italia operators. Try calling 187 (or ask one of your Italian friends to call).

Finally, there is an Official thread (a very long thread) about your modem

http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showthread.php?t=1866793

try ask your question there.

Thanks for the response - NO VOIP.
Whats your opinion, it should be possible to change right? On another note, while Alice dsl modem being locked i cant enable UNPN as well, meaning cant get Media center to work for my PS3…
