schermo nero prima di arrivare al login

Ciao a tutti,
ho Scientific Linux versione 4.qualcosa, non ricordo esattamente e ho riscontrato improvvisamente questo problema: accendo il mio portatile, il boot sembra andare bene, ma quando finisce di caricare tutto e deve passare alla pagina di login lo schermo diventa nero, non c'e' il prompt n'e' niente! Per un po' la lucina verde del disco continua a stare accesa, poi di solito si spegne anche quella! Non so cosa fare perche' non mi da' errori.
Mi era successo precedentemente, dopo l'ultimo aggiornamento, che non funzionasse piu' l'X11, ma ero riuscita a sistemare la cosa e funzionava di nuovo tutto, ora pero' non ho fatto nessun aggiornamento e non mi da' errori come invece faceva l'altra volta.

Spero di aver dato tutte le informazioni necessarie a qualche volenteroso che mi possa dare una mano!

Se si spegne il monitor che scheda video hai e che driver stai usando?

Hai una modalità di recovery al boot? se si da li puoi caricare il sistema e andare a vedere in xorg.conf cosa c'è che non va (es. driver)

Che domande difficili...

Non saprei dire se si pianta o semplicemente si spegne il monitor... Qualunque tasto schiacci non risponde, sembra piantato direi... C'e' qualche cosa che possa fare per capirlo meglio?

Riguardo ai driver non so proprio cosa rispondere :cry: non sono molto esperta!
La scheda video posso dirtelo tra mezz'oretta!!

Modalita' di recovery al boot... non so neanche questo :( In caso ce l'avessi cosa devo fare?

Alcune domande:

- quando vedi la schermata nera la lucetta del monitor lampeggia?
- l'avvio è grafico (barra che carica) o testuale (sfilza di scritte)?
- se è testuale ricevi errori?

Ipotizzando sia un errore dei driver video (quindi schermo che si spegne, led del monitor che lampeggia, eventuale errore out of range del monitor) puoi provare a fare così:

Se al boot (cioè quando scegli che sistema operativo far partire) hai una voce che ti permette di avviare linux in safe mode (in genere ci sono: linux, linux safe mode, memtest e eventualmente altri SO) puoi provare a loggarti come root e dare il comando: xorgconfig (dovrebbe andare)
Questo ti permette di settare le opzioni di X. Quando ti chiede i driver prova a mettere, in alternativa a quelli Intel e solo se quelli Intel continuano a non funzionare, i vesa.

Se non dovessi avere una voce di avvio in safe mode puoi provare ad avviare Linux da CD/DVD se funziona live (le ultime versioni di Scientific Linux dovrebbero avere l'avvio senza installazione) da li recuperare xorg.conf e vedere se c'è qualche casino.

- Il monitor non ha lucette (è un laptot), ma c'è quella del disco che resta accesa come se stesse lavorando faticosamente.
- l'avvio è grafico, ma posso vedere tutti i dettagli (alt+d) che sono sotto forma di testo
- dà ok su tutto. In realtà nella prima parte scrive delle cose che non capisco bene e che mi sembrava non dicesse una volta, ma non sono proprio errori. dopo riprovo ad avviare e le annoto

Mi sembra che al boot ci siano tre possibilità per avviare linux, che mi sono comparse successivamente ai vari aggiornamenti, non credo siano safe mode.

Altro problema: non ho i cd di sl, perché non sono a casa mia... Comunque se è necessario li scarico di nuovo!

Ho provato ad annotare le prime righe di cio' che scrive perche' mi sembrano un po' strane, ma non so se c'entra:

Entering non interactive startup

In mezzo ha scritto anche altro, ma sovrascrivendo le righe quindi non ho capito bene :(

Ho visto che al boot posso accedere ad una riga di comando da cui si puo' fare qualcosa, ma non xorgconfig che era quello che mi avevi detto di fare.

si pianta anche se avvi con gli altri kernel?Certo che sono vecchi,non è molto aggiornata come distro....

quando ti rimane sulla schermata nera,se dai ctrl+alt+f2,oppure ctrl+alt+f3 ecc...inteso come premere contemporaneamente i tasti ctrl,alt ed f2,succede qualcosa?

dobbiamo avviarla in modalità testo e vedere perchè si pianta,probabilmente dipende da X e mi servono i file di prima allora vediamo un po,quando sei su grub seleziona la prima voce ma al posto di dare invio premi e,dopo ti appariranno varie righe,tu portati su quella che inizia con kernel,primi nuovamente e,ora ti apparirà un prompt,spostati alla fine di questa riga e scrivi single dopo premi una volta invio e poi b,dovrebbe fare il boot e dovresti trovarti ad una console gia loggata


P.s: perchè Scientific linux?Hai esigenze particolari?Altrimenti valuta l'installazione di una ottima Mandriva ad esempio

Uso scientific linux perche' mi serve per l'universita', lavoro per un esperimento del CERN e li' usano quello!

Dunque, ho fatto le cose che mi hai detto e ora prendo i file.....

Scusate la mia piccola intromissione..io ho lo stesso identico problema con la mia macronix 3dfx vodoo rusher...non parte da nessuna distro con desktop gnome e fa lo stesso schermo nero..mi potresti dire (se sai) che driver potrei mettere sul file xorg? e magari se esiste una opzione per fare il boot da live cd che mi permetta di avviare il pc?So che è una scheda vecchia ma era l'unica che avevo da mettere su un pc she mi servirà per fare un piccolo server di backup...grazie e scusate...:)

io per prima cosa andrei a vedere se per caso c'è un backup dello xorg.conf da sostituire a quello "danneggiato"

Scusate la mia piccola intromissione..io ho lo stesso identico problema con la mia macronix 3dfx vodoo rusher...non parte da nessuna distro con desktop gnome e fa lo stesso schermo nero..mi potresti dire (se sai) che driver potrei mettere sul file xorg? e magari se esiste una opzione per fare il boot da live cd che mi permetta di avviare il pc?So che è una scheda vecchia ma era l'unica che avevo da mettere su un pc she mi servirà per fare un piccolo server di backup...grazie e scusate...:)

driver specifici non credo ne esistano...3dfx...bei ricordi ma looontani!! :D Nel tuo caso dovresti usare i vesa! ;)
Nessuna live ti funziona?Di solito premendo f2 al boot o comunque qualche tasto che ti viene indicato hai le varie opzioni con cui far partire la live dovresti scegliere qualcosa del tipo safe graphic mode

Non ti convince il warning?No quello non centra è una cosa risaputissima delle schede intel,funziona comunque! ;)

A me xorg.conf sembra ok,comunque se c'è un backup meglio provare anche se tempo che quando leggerà avrà gia fatto la mia modifica e il file ~xorg.conf sarà quello attuale

Ho gia provato di tutto..driver vesa ubuntu, ubuntu alternate, xubuntu...Vanno da dio plak, tutte le kde, dsl e la puppy..ho provato anche a copiare le opzioni di avvio di quest'ultima (vga=0x317 e vga=791) che mi pare abbiano lo stesso desktop xfce ma nulla da fare...anzi peggiora perchè fa schermo nero anche durante l'avvio...poi lampa e si blocca...può essere qualcosa legato al bus pci??

Si si in pratica non so che macello abbiano fatto quelli della intel non vengono rilevate tutte le risoluzioni disponibili,prima infatti serviva un programmino apposta 915resolution,ora con xorg 7.2 hanno sistemato già direttamente lì! ;)

Cioè aspetta un attimo,è gnome a darti quel problema?O è ubuntu?Cioè hai provato altre distro con gnome tipo fedora?Se con puppy ecc...ti funziona escluderei decisamente problemi hw,quelli son propriro l'ultima cosa! ;)

Ho provato Mepis e nessun problema..fedora non ricordo se l'ho provata..mi pare di si..già è per quello che mi sono un pò puntato..l'unica cosa è che forse il chip 3dfx non va della scheda..ma il 2d si di sicuro..

A questo punto credo sia un problema esclusivo di Ubuntu,e non saprei come aiutarti!Il 3d comunque di sicuro non funziona,dovresti trovare il modo di avviare in modalità testo e avviare X con i driver vesa,da una live di ubuntu non so some si faccia...ma la l'aternate non va?dove si pianta?

Secondo te puppy per il server è sufficiente? Volevo Ubuntu perchè sul pc principale sto imparando a usare quella..devo metterla in rete con sistemi windows..

puppy non lo mai usata,focalizzarti su una distro è piu che giusto,ma a me ubuntu non piace ma è un mio parere e conta fino ad un certo punto,potresti mettere una debian per il serverino,i comandi sono simili ad ubuntu,essa è proprio una derivata di debian,ma non vorrei andar troppo offtopic! ;)

Potresti provare,devi togliere il .backup e rinominarlo xorg.conf,comunque anche se dovessi sistemare,io ti consiglio davvero un upgrade all'ultima versione,molto probabilmente non avrai più questo genere di problemi con X in quanto la scheda intel fila via liscia,con xorg e kernel aggiornati! ;)

Adesso provo a farlo, ma non credo che funzionera' perche' guardando le differenze tra i due, mi sono ricordata che a quello vecchio avevo avevo aggiunto delle righe magiche che erano state utili per far tornare tutto a posto (delle cose del tipo FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc" "...Speedo", "...Type1", "...CID", "...75dpi","...100dpi" A me non dicono nulla, ma magari tu capisci ;) ).

La cosa che mi stupisce e' che apparentemente non e' cambiato nulla da quando funzionava a quando ha smesso... Ovviamente cosi' non e', ma non so cosa posso aver combinato senza accorgermi proprio di niente!

figurati spiace non aver risolto,il fatto è che se fosse un problema di conf il file di log lo segnalerebbe mentre non ci vedo nulla che non vada!Quando hai tempo aggiorna che ti levi molte magagne! ;)
