ciao a tutti, ho 2 PC: uno con win server 2003 ed uno con ubuntu 7.04 appena installato. entrambi i pc hanno 2 schede di rete: una wireless, che li connette ad un ap-router, ed una ethernet con cui li collego tra loro tramite cavo crossed, per spostare i file grossi. fin'ora la configurazione era la stessa, ma sul pc linux prima c'era win2k sp4 (e tutto ovviamente funzionava a dovere).
il dispositivo wireless non è stato riconosciuto da ubuntu, come prevedibile (ho già trovato una pagina che potrebbe fare al caso mio anche se non ci capisco molto, http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Hardware/DispositiviSenzaFili/RalinkRT73, risolto il primo problema mi aiutate a farla funzionare, vero? :D), mentre la scheda ethernet sono già riuscito ad impostarla.
il mio problema è che non riesco a condividere files tramite la rete ethernet: i pc si pingano a vicenda, quindi la rete c'è...
sulle guide trovate in rete leggo che in teoria non occorre impostare nulla per vedere da linux le risorse condivise da windows, eppure places->rete->windows network è vuota.
se invece tento di condividere qualcosa sul pc linux andando su system->amministrazione->cartelle condivise, dopo aver inserito la password mi appare una finestra di dialogo che dice che devo installare i servizi di condivisione e mi permette di (de)selezionare smb e nfs, ma quando clicko su "install services" resta imbambolato per qualche secondo e poi ricompare la stessa finestra.
qualcuno mi sa aiutare?

Prova ad accedere direttamente col tuo file-browser mettendo come indirizzo:
smb://IP.DEL.COMPUTER.WIN2003
Per il wizard di condivisione che non vuol andare, prova ad installare prima samba con il tuo programma di gestione di pacchetti preferito (Synaptic o Adept o chissà che...), poi prova ad usarlo di nuovo.

ah un'altra cosa, da quel che ho capito samba è indispensabile se voglio accedere alle risorse del PC linux da quello windows (l'inverso di quello che sono riuscito a fare). per installarlo con il mio "programma gestione pacchetti preferito" (che non ho la minima idea di cosa sia) mi serve internet, giusto?

E' sì, serve internet... Non credo ci sia sul cd di kubuntu il server Samba, per problemi di spazio.
Per "programma gestione pacchetti preferito" intendo Synaptic o Adept, che sono i gestori grafici migliori. Dovresti trovarli nel menù (se ancora in inglese dovrebbe essere sotto "package manager" o simile), non ricordo in quale sezione perchè non ho usato granchè Ubuntu.
Scaricarli a mano mi sembra poco proponibile, perchè credo abbiano abbastanza dipendenze insoddisfatte da seguire.

ma intendi samba o i drivers per la rete wireless?
io ho provato ad installare i drivers della mia scheda usb, atlantis A02-UP1-W54, seguendo questa guida (http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Hardware/DispositiviSenzaFili/RalinkRT73), ma con esito negativo.
ecco cosa ho fatto:
1. ho scaricato il file .tar.gz linkato nella guida sul pc win;
2. lo ho copiato nella home tramite la rete wired;
3. ho provato a compiere le istruzioni al passo "Esclusione dei moduli" della guida, ma non trova nessun modulo da eliminare...
4. ho seguito senza problemi o errori i passi successivi della guida;
5. non ho trovato nessuna nuova interfaccia di rete al termine delle operazioni quando la guida dice "Verificare il corretto funzionamento della chiavetta e accertarsi della comparsa di una nuova interfaccia di rete denominata wlan0 oppure wlan1."
per caso in qualche passo della guida era necessaria la connessione ad internet? il fatto che non ci fossero moduli da escludere cosa può voler dire?

No scusa, io parlavo ancora di Samba. M'ero dimenticato dei drivers wifi.
Mi sembra di capire che non hai incontrato problemi particolari seguendo la guida. Ma precisiamo un paio di punti:
non hai trovato i moduli fastidiosi caricati, ma li hai blacklistati ugualmente (gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist ecc, ecc...)?
hai portato a termine la guida inserendo rt73 in /etc/modules?
Una volta sistemato tutto riavvia (per sicurezza...) e facciamo un paio di prove:
controlla che il modulo sia stato caricato correttamente: esegui il comando lsmod | grep rt73 se ti appare rt73 e basta tutto ok, altrimenti vuol dire che il modulo non va d'accordo col kernel o chissà che e non viene caricato.
prova ad inserire la scheda (non lasciarla inserita durante l'avvio, collegala dopo), e se non funziona ancora esegui il comando dmesg | taildovresti vedere gli ultimi eventi (ed eventuali errori) relativi alla scheda
Se ancora non funziona posta o allega il risultato del comando dmesg
non ho neanche provato a blacklistarli, se non ci sono a che servirebbe? o sbaglio?
la verifica dell'esistenza della nuova interfaccia l'ho fatta senza riavviare, quindi credo non fosse necessario modificare /etc/modules... comunque anche modificandolo e riavviando non è cambiato niente.

Blacklistarli serve ad evitare che li carichi automaticamente! Soprattutto l'rt73usb buggato citato nella guida. Se non l'hai ancora fatto, fallo!
Se ancora non funziona non ho molte altre idee... Se non è stato caricato qualche modulo che è andato in conflitto con quello giusto sembrerebbe che non venga proprio riconosciuta.

la mia scheda non è una a02-up1-w54 ma una a02-up-w54, e sul sito della atlantis, guardando nei dettagli dei prodotti, la prima è esplicitamente compatibile con linux, mentre per la mia ciò non è scritto :cry:
