HD: GRAVE E URENGENTE! Aiuto...

Ciao ragazzi, credo di aver combinato, un disastro, spero non irreparabile.

Volevo fare una partizione di 20gb con partition magic 8 sul mio hd da 120gb, per installare un sistema operativo da usare per dual boot, quindi ho partizionato come primary.

Durante il resizing della partizione principale, quando era circa al 70%, è spuntato un errore:

"Error 1517 while executing batch
Error 1517 required file attribute missing
Will now reboot
Press any key to continue"

Ho premuto un tasto come richiesto, non si avvia più windows. Nemmeno in modalità provvisoria.

La dentro non ho solo file importanti che conservo da una vita e dei quali purtroppo non ho un backup...
Ho la mia TESI DI LAUREA, e non possomettermi a riscriverla, ho troppe cose FONDAMENTALI.

Sono stato un coglione a non prendere precauzione, ok...ma a parte i mea culpa devo trovare una soluzione.

Datemi una mano, per favore. Cosa posso fare...

July 29, 2004. Partition Magic 8.01 (Build 1274 from 3/14/2003). From Windows, I told Partition Magic to copy an NTFS primary partition on hard disk number 1 to free space in an extended partition on hard disk number 2. It shut down Windows because the partition being copied was the one Windows was running in. The DOS mode copy suffered an error 1517 - Required file attribute missing. The partition was not copied.

I ran a Windows Check disk next but could not run a Partition Magic check for errors because the partition in question was the active one. So I booted using the Partition Magic rescue floppy disks and ran a check for errors from DOS. No errors were found. Then I tried the exact same partition copy using the rescue disks and halfway through there was another Error 1517. At this point Windows and Partition Magic have given the partition a clean bill of health. Yet, Partition Magic will not copy it. What a disgrace.

I reported this to Symantec and they replied (on August 1, 2004):

The error 1517 that you reported, may actually be on the destination partition, and not on the source partition.
In some cases, it is necessary to check the destination first with CHKDSK /F to ensure that you are not putting a clean
image on an unclean partition.
Even if there is no data on the destination partition , old data errors could still remain.
In rare cases, it may even be necessary to delete the destination partition, create a new partition there, and then run
CHKDSK /F to prepare it for image file copy.
As always, whenever you run CHKDSK /F to look for or repair data errors, make sure you run it at least 3 or 4 times, or
more in some cases, just to make sure CHKDSK does not miss anything the first few times through.

To me, the above response is baloney as the new partition is created from scratch into unallocated space. Judge for yourself. There is no way old errors could remain as the is no old data. There is nothing but a partition table that designates a section of the hard disk as not used at all - unallocated. It is impossible to turn CHKDSK /F on unallocated space. Symantec does not include the problem description from the user (me) in their responses so there is no way to see if the support person mis-read the problem description or the user did not explain it well.

When I responded to Symantec that their response was sub-optimal, they responded with:

I apologize for not being very clear in my previous email.
The unallocated space that might contain errors, can be checked after simply creating a partition there with either FDISK
or with Partition Magic.
Then run CHKDSK /F to repair any errors that may be there.
Once done, you can delete the partition and perform the Copy operation.

Curious as to just what an error 1517 was I went to the official Partition Magic 8 error messages web page where the error is not listed. I did find "Error 1517: Required file attribute missing (EA3905ED) which says that a CHKDSK will fix the problem. It did not. It also says that if there is an error found, run CHKDSK again and again until it comes up clean. Just for fun, I ran CHKDSK two more times in a row. Then I tried to copy the partition to unallocated space on the same hard disk. This worked. I give up.

Per recuperare i dati hai solo 1 speranza.
O monti l'HD in questione come slave su un altro Pc oppure prendi un nuovo HD, partizionalo se vuoi, e mettici su un Sistema Operativo, e metti sempre l'altro HD come slave.
Fatto questo, recuperi al volo tutto quello che ancora si legge da sistema, poi ricorri ad un'utility per il recupero dati:
1- Get Data Back for FAT
2- Undelete Plus
3- Ontrack Data Recovery
.... ce ne sono tante, ma la prima secondo me è la migliore.
e bada di non scrivere mai alcunchè su quell'HD ne tantomeno di far salvare i dati recuperati sullo stesso, perchè se fai così sovrascrivi i dati che ancora ci sono sopra.

per caso il tuo HD aveva file system NTFS?
Se è così prova con
Get Data Back for NTFS
ma le speranze decrescono esponenzialmente.

La symantec, che fa partition magic, per questo errore propone questa soluzione:

Mentre un amico mi ha proposto una di queste tre:

- cd di windows -> ripara installazione (te lo chiede subito dopo che schiacci F8 per il contratto)

- oppure attacchi hdd ad altro pc

- oppure reinstalli win su se stesso sporco, senza formattare, oppure su un altro hdd solo per avere una sessione in cui spostare i dati...

In altrnativa ancora lo porto al negozio sotto casa (essedi, hanno un servizio di assistenza), lo faccio collegare a un altro pc e salvo i dati che mi servono.

Facci capire...
se il sistema è andato a farsi benedire, per fare il check disk devi essere andato già in DOS mode, con un floppy di avvio e aver fatto le operazioni indicate, quindi cosa vorresti sapere ora?

come resettare DOS e riavviare?
Togli il floppy
scrivi EXIT oppure (se non funziona) premi CTRL+ALT+CANC e via, resetti e riavvia

EDIT
se invece sei in windows, fai start > chiudi sessione e dal menu che ti appare scegli riavvia sistema

Per il recupero di dati su partizioni formattate "velocemente" usa R-Studio v3.0 o superiori... Ho avuto un bel casino l'anno scorso e per sbaglio ho formattato anche l'hardidsk di backup.. beh, con questa utility sono riuscito a recuperare il 98% delle cose!!!!
Precauzioni:
Compra o fatti prestare un harddisk e lo metti come master, mentre imposti in slave l'hd in questione (SENZA SCRIVERCI NULLA!!! IO NEPPURE CI CLICCAVO SOPRA PER PAURA DI PERDERE TUTTO!!! MI RACCOMANDO!).. installa quindi windows sul master (che deve avere dimensione >= a quello da recuperare) e recupera i dati con R-Studio. (Ho provato tutti i programmi, ero disperato, Get Data Back, Partition recovery, Ntfs Recovery, ecc, programmi che mi analizzavano per 48 ore il disco!!! niente... all'ultima spiaggia con R-Studio in 2 ore ho recuperato 240GB...).
Non installare windows nuovamente sull'harddisk danneggiato (a meno che non sia solo un errore di windows e non sia stato formattato realmente..)
