Problema installazione Netgear WG111v2 su Win 2000

Pensavo che le difficoltà maggiori nel passare al wireless le avrei avute col router, invece sto impazzendo per installare la chiavetta usb sul portatile :confused:

L'hardware in questione è il Netgear WG111v2 USB Adapter, la cui installazione mi ha dato come risultato, dopo numerosi tentativi, sempre il medesimo messaggio di errore (vedi immagine allegata). Specifico che ho tentato con le tre versioni del sw presenti sul sito (http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wg111v2.asp) e che il mio os è Win 2000 sp4 installato su un IBM Thinkpad R40. Nessun problema invece per installare la chiavetta sul desktop, che monta XP.

Cercando nella knowledge base microsoft, ho tovato un errore analogo ma relativo alle scede di rete pcmcia:

An error occurred during the installation of the device. The inf or the device information set or element does not match the specified install class.

La soluzione necessita di modifiche di registro:
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Mf\PCMCIA
3. Delete all of the folders that are in the PCMCIA folder. If an error message states that you do not have permission to delete, for each folder that you need to delete, click the folder, and then, on the Security menu, click Permissions. Give Everyone full control.
4. Locate the following key in the registry, and then delete all folders that are under the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCMCIA
5. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
6. Right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager.
7. Expand the Network Adapters folder, right-click the network adapter that is causing the error, and then click Properties.
8. Click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then reinstall the driver for the network adapter.

Ovviamente io dovrei invece toccare le voci relative a alle connessioni usb, tuttavia prima di causare danni irreparabili avrei davvero bisogno del consiglio di un esperto :help: :help: :help:
