Nella giornata di ieri, 10 Settembre 2001, Intel ha ufficialmente introdotto sul mercato il nuovo chipset i845 per sistemi Pentium IV e memoria SDRAM PC133, noto anche con il nome in codice di Brookdale. Questa soluzione è pensata per il mercato entry level e sfrutta la diffusa memoria SDRAM PC133, così da ampliare ulteriormente il parco macchien absato su processori Pentium IV e, progressivamente, rimuovere dal mercato le cpu Pentium III Coppermine.

Rispetto al chipset i850, il chipset i845 vanta prestazioni velocistiche nettamente inferiori; il gap di questa soluzione è infatti rappresentato dalla memoria SDRAM PC133, che ha una bandwidth complessiva nettamente inferiore a quella della memoria Rambus PC800. On line sono state pubblicate diverse recensioni di questo nuovo chipset, tra le quali sono da segnalare le seguenti:
