una domanda sulla risoluzioneEso kubuntu, se non sbaglio il tasso, quello prima del dapper; in fase di installazione non ho incluso tra le risoluzioni compatibili la 1440x900, che ora mi tornerebbe utile; come posso fare per inserirla?

Come scritto più sopra in questo thread, xorg legge le risoluzioni dalla sinistra verso destra.
Se vuoi avere qualche speranza in più di farlo andare, comincia a mettere la risoluzione aggiunta da te prima del "1024x768". :)

Per il fatto che si avvia in 1280x1024, invece, controlla se da qualche parte c'è una riga che inizia per ModeLine... se c'è, commentala.

Puoi postare il file xorg.conf completo?

Ah, cmq la risoluzione la cambi anche dal cento di controllo di KDE...., come in Windows

EDIT: Come dicevo prima, puoi fare click col tasto destro sul desktop, e scegliere "Configura desktop..."
Dalla finestra che appare, clicca su "Schermo" nella lista a sinistra e scegli la risoluzione. Se vuoi che sia sempre applicata, spunta "Applica le impostazioni ad ogni avvio di KDE". Semplice no?
Un'altra strada è farlo dal centro di controllo, se non sbaglio c'è un'utiliti (nell'ultima fila di icone) che ti permette di modificare la risoluzione direttamente nel file xorg.conf in modo grafico (In Yast di Suse c'è, s non sbaglio qualcosa di simile c'è anche in kubuntu).
Ancora, puoi sempre editare xorg.conf a mano con un editor di testo ;)

Se continua a non andare a 1024x768 come risoluzione, apri una console e digita (o fai un copia e incolla :D)

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

In questo modo configuri il server X in modo piuttosto comodo (configurazione in grafica console), tra cui anche la risoluzione desiderata.

Facci sapere.

ed ha funzionato!!!
ho dovuto però riavviare proprio il notebook per applicare
riavviando solo la sessione non andava

Avevo sospettato che ti mancava qusto (che poi ha risolto il problema):

HorizSync 28-51
VertRefresh 43-60

in Section "Monitor", ma non te l'ho proposto perchè, non conoscendo il tuo monitor, non sapevo quali valori proporti :)
Quei valori sono rilevati in automatico dal monitor (o li puoi prendere dal manuale del tuo monitor, ma meglio in automatico eheh)
Strano però che, in mancanza, quei valori non te li prendeva correttamente a runtime... L'importante è aver risolto

EDIT: il fatto che riavviando la sessione non applicava le modifiche (come normalmente accade in tutte le distro) è perchè Kubuntu, per velocizzare il riavvio della sessione, NON riavvia il server X al logout, come invece normalmente fanno tutte le distro.
Onestamente non è che la differenza di velocità sia esaltante (è un po' più veloce), IMHO se lasciavano il comportamento normale (Riavvio d Xorg al logout) era meglio, per evitare ad esempio casi come il tuo (che hai dovuto riavviare tutto il pc solo per impostato una nuova risoluzione).

sìsì sono tutti giusti ;) Le configurazioni guidate hardware di kubuntu, per quanto molte siano ancora in grafica konsole (del resto Kubuntu è basata su debian) sono ottimi.
Per me Kubuntu è una "debian easy" :)

ora sono passato al desktop
dove c'è un piccolo problema riguardo alla centratura dello schermo
infatti è spostato di 4-5 mm verso destra e mi ritrovo con una riga nera verticale sulla sx
se lo centro con i pulsanti del monitor stesso, si centra
ma poi se avvio windows mi trovo la finestra non centrata

sta cosa dipende dai driver su kubuntu
o la risolvo modificando sempre l'xorg.conf?

ciao ragazzi io ho lo stesso problema con suse 10.1 posso risolvere allo stesso modo..?
a me pero fa un po diverso.
il monitor lo vede come 1280 x 1024 ma quando provo ad andare sulla risoluzione schermo da centro controllo mi da solo 640x480 (il che è un po triste come risoluzione)...

eheh potessi ti aiuterei ma sono appena entrato in linux con kubuntu
quindi meglio che faccio parlare altri :D

ora sono passato al desktop
dove c'è un piccolo problema riguardo alla centratura dello schermo
infatti è spostato di 4-5 mm verso destra e mi ritrovo con una riga nera verticale sulla sx
se lo centro con i pulsanti del monitor stesso, si centra
ma poi se avvio windows mi trovo la finestra non centrata

sta cosa dipende dai driver su kubuntu
o la risolvo modificando sempre l'xorg.conf?
