Debian: installato ppp ma non parte

ho installato ppp ma ifconfig mi dice che sono attivi solamente eth0 e lo..come mai? Mi serve per condividere l'adsl col cellulare

Buongiorno, ho un portatile Acer e sto cercando di configurare una connessione analogica [debian]; questo e' l'output di wvdial:

(Or you can create /etc/wvdial.conf yourself.)Io ho solo il cavetto RJ11 che si collega al computer, non ho cavi usb o seriali; su Windows tutto funziona configurando una connessione ad accesso remoto (nome utente, password e numero di telefono), come posso fare per fare la stessa cosa in Linux?
Questo lo facevo 6-7 anni fa su Mandrake, ora non ricordo i passi per risolvere il problema, ma quella volta il modem si collegava via seriale al computer; Windows nel pannello di controllo mi dice che il modem e' collegato su COM3, che dovrebbe essere /dev/ttyS2, ma da minicom non riesco a comunicare con tale porta. Idee?
Anche pppconfig non sembra funzionare...

OK ho risolto, ho dovuto installare il driver per il modem (un 'winmodem').
Devo aver fatto qualche casino con apt-get, infatti ogni volta che digito il suddetto comando ottengo:

come posso fare per eliminare ltmodem-2.6.8-2-386 dalla lista del programmi da rimuovere oppure eliminarlo per sempre?
