AM2 compatibile con le DDR3? Questioni di Bios...

Va bene, notizia rilasciata da The Inquirer, quindi da prendere con le molle...

THERE is a big possibility that existing socket AM2 CPUs might just be able to support the upcoming DDR3 memory. That is the 2007 marchitecture but we spoke with a few people that believe that DDR 3 specification is so close to DDR 2 that it might just work. It is technically possible, it should be.

AMD or the motherboard manufacturers should do some BIOS tweaks to make it happen but the bottom line is that it could be done.

There is a big indication that DDR 3 ram modules might be identical to DDR 2 ones. So there is a big chance that you will be able to plug the new memory in the old slots. Still knowing how the industry goes we could expect that there might be either the new chipset revision or more likely socket AM2 tweak or re-spin to make the support. We know that chipset doesn’t have to do anything with the memory but Nvidia did introduce MCP 55 a new chipset that will support DDR 2 capable socket AM2.

In pratica sembra che il nuovo socket AM2 sia compatibile con le nuove DDR3, grazie ad un aggiornamento bios.
I moduli DDR3 pare saranno identiche alle DDR2 almeno nella forma del pettine; in pratica la differenza sarebbe solo nella gestione dei voltaggi, più bassi per le DDR3.
Le voci di questa presunta compatibilità si sono manifestare al CeBit, anche se la fonte rimane tutta da verificare...

be, se fosse confermata la notizia sarebbe ottimo, e significherebbe anche che presto vedremo ste benedette ddr3 come vanno... :)

non credo che i produttori di mobo siano contenti :D

Mah... le mobo dovrebbero supportare Voltaggi di 1.4 1.5V sulle DIMM, i nuovi moduli dovrebbero ssere meccanicamente compatibili con quelli DDR2.

Questo ammettendo che il controller della memoria sui nuovi K8 sia pienamente compatibile con lo standard finale ratificato delle DIMM DDR3, e che non sia solo una preerogativa di CPU AMD che verranno prodotte successivamente.

Concordo una notizia da prendere con i guanti e poi non so quanto AMD convenga far si che le nuove cpu e le nuove mobo siano gia compatibili con DDR3 IMHO stravolgeranno tutto un altra volta con nuovi soket e CPU.Se no come si fa a far si che l'utente ne spenda ancora di soldi :) !!!!!
