li ho installati... tu hai notato miglioramenti tangibili? a me sembra lievemente più veloce, ma non ho ancora valutato bene.. chissà forse questa è la volta che si mettono a fare drivers seri :)

no ancora li devo installare...giusto 3 giorni fa sono passato da ubuntu a debian. rifai de qua rifai de li de su de giù, e avevo installato i vecchi? (8.22?!) :cry:
domenica vedo di metterli, adesso ho esaurito tutte le mie forze (soprattutto psicologiche!! :D ). speriamo bene

purtroppo non conosco molto bene debian.. ma dovresti vedere da dove arriva e a cosa serve sto comando dh_testdir che non riesce a trovare! se non trovi niente cerca in tutto l'hard disk dove si nasconde :)

con fgl_glxgears faccio 400 fps...comunque vanno!

piccolo OT: credi che con una 9550 (la ati che ho io :fagiano: ) ci girerà bene Xgl ?(parlo di quando sarà usato in maniera stabile)

io ho una 9600pro e gira molto bene, non credo che la tua 9550 incontrerà difficoltà :D! penso che anche su una 9100 girerà (magari anche sulla mia vecchia voodoo3.. lo proverò)! il problema sono sempre i drivers, se inizieranno a ottimizzarli un pò per xgl la situazione può solo migliorare :) spero che ATI raccolga la sfida.

la scelta più intelligente secondo me è raccogliere la sfida e buttare quella 9600pro.

il mio target è far girare decentemente XGL, tanto per capirci. anche se di XGL non è che me ne freghi molto :D era più per lasciare Ati e passare ad Nvidia.
nella speranza che terranno ancora qualche scheda agp, aspetto ancora un po di tempo, quando le 6600 scenderanno, se scenderanno, di prezzo (se no aspetto molto di più e se ne riparla quando cambierò MB)

Scusate ma, già che si parla di drivers ATI me la dareste una mano? Ho scaricato e installato quelli linkati da LiLLO su Mandriva 2006 ma continuano a funzionare le MesaGL... :(

Mmm forse ho capito da solo, io ho XOrg 6.9.0 e i drivers sono per XOrg 6.8.0 magari è proprio questo il problema, o no? :mbe:

nn credo io ho xorg 7 e ho installato ugualmente i driver ati che sn solo per xorg 6.8

Sono riuscito a sistemare il tutto, la distribuzione è una slackware current.
Cmq ho fatto le seguenti cose
1) Aggiunto il modulo (deprecato) intermodule all'ultimo kernel
2) abilitato l'agp interno al modulo
3) aggiunta la voce /dev/shm in fstab

e tutto sembra andare per il meglio

ho continuato a usare drivers non ufficiali per un pò... adesso dopo qualche anno di assenza mi è tornato il buon caro vecchio pc :) ed è in attesa di essere formattato per servire a qualcosa :D .

comunque mi sembra che il tuo xorg.conf sia un tantino incasinato... ti consiglio di rifare da capo ;)

ps. hai dato il comando "aticonfig --initial" da root alla fine?

No, da me i drivers si installano perfettamente ma quando do il comando fglrxinfo mi dice che ci sono ancora le MesaGL.

Il mio xorg.conf è personalizzato per il mio monitor altrimenti i drivers mi danno 75hz e non 85, comunque ho provato più volte con entrambi ma non cambia nulla

Gliel'ho fatto ricreare da capo almeno una ventina di volte da zero, aticonfig --initial l'ho dato da root dopo l'installazione e prima di riavviare, al riavvio schermo a 75hz ma sempre MesaGL, metto "fglrx" al posto di "radeon" e "ati" nel file xorg.conf ma non cambia niente, se sbaglio qualcosa mi parte in riga di comando e devo dare "aticonfig --initial -f" e poi "aticonfig --resolution=1280x1024,1024x768,800x600" per poter ripartire in ambiente grafico, provato e riprovato fino allo sfinimento. :(

il problema è che non basta sostituire radeon con fglrx.. ci sono un'infinità di parametri mancanti di cui molti probabilmente solo loro sanno cosa vogliono dire :) ma aticonfig --initial ti da qualche errore?

No nessun errore, per sicurezza ho rifatto un'altra volta l'installazione dei drivers e in effetti fila tutto liscio solo che l'accelerazione non si abilita, l'unica cosa "strana" è che al comando fgl_glxgears le rotelle non appaiono, forse vanno solo in direct rendering?

li ho provati ad installare prima dal file eseguibile e non mi va perchè mi dice devo specificare una versione di xorg inferiore a 6.9, ma anche specificandola non funziona e da lo stesso errore.

poi ho provato a seguire questo (http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Dapper_Installation_Guide#Method_2:_Generating.2FInstalling_Ubuntu_packages_for_the_newer_8.24.8_drivers_in_Ubuntu_Dapper) tutorial come avevo letto in questo (http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showthread.php?t=1179956&page=2&pp=20) topic ma al riavvio non mi partiva neanche il server x ed ho dovuto cancellare manualmente parecchie parti di xorg.conf visto che furbescamente non ne avevo fatto un backup.

in poche parole come devo fare per installarli semplicemente sti driver?? ho debian etch aggiornata a sid
tra l'altro non ho mai installato i driver precedenti a questi e mi servirebbero per attivare a quanto ho capito ombre e trasparenze in kde, visto che se ora lo faccio va lentissimo e crasha tutto :doh:

sono riuscito ad installarla con l'eseguibile della ati, ma mi dice che devo eseguire aticonfig per configurare la scheda. se faccio aticonfig pero mi da le istruzioni del comando e non parte niente :muro:

EDIT: ho capito come fare ma niente, mi da sempre lo stesso errore nel caricamento del server x:

Uhm, neituoi log non ho visto qualcosa che invece mi aspetterei di vedere...

Fai cosi':
0) controlla i diritti di /dev/dri (e di tutto cio' che e' contenuto in /dev/dri),
la drectory dovrebbe essere 777,il contenuto "c rw rw rw"

1) quando sei ancora in modalita' "solo-testo" su una shell digita

tail -f /var/log/messages

vedrai che ti apparirano alcune righe (per la precisione le ultime di /var/log/messages) e che NON ti verra' restituito il prompt.

Batti qualche volta ENTER per lasciare qualche riga vuota

2) su un'altra shell lancia X
A questo punto, nella shell del tail dovrebbero comparire nuove scritte: copia, incolla e postale qui.

Per interrompere il tail basta che digiti CTRL+C


3) dopo che hai provato a far partire X fai "lsmod": vedi tra i moduli "fglrx"?

4) vai in /lib/modules/fglrx

5)
cd build_mod
cd 2.6.x
make clean
cd ../firegl_agpgart
make clean
cd ..
./make.sh (se non e' eseguibile allora "sh make.sh")

CONTROLLA ATTENTAMENTE GLI ERRORI PRODOTTI!
Eventualmente postali (mi sa che ti manca qualche patch)

Se invece hai solo una montagna di warning:
cd ..
./make_install.sh (se non e'eseguibile allora "sh make_install.sh")

Rifai il boot e riprova a caricare X.

Avevo lo stesso problema anche io su simplymepis e nn capivo perché, ho provato mille volte a installare i driver ma niente. Alla fine ho reinstallato mepis (meno di 20 minuti) scegliendo da subito i driver fglrx (c'è l'opzione) e ho risolto il problema!! Rimane cmq un mistero!!!

A questo punto sospetto fortemente che sia fallita la creazione del modulo fglrx.
Se fai "lsmod" lo vedi?

Consiglio di installare i driver dalla consolle e vedere se alla fine parti di eventuali errori. Ho notato che così se ci sn errori me lo dice, se lo isntallato dall'interfaccia grafica invece niente

io non posso reinstallarlo perchè con molta fatica ho installato parecchie cose e comunque nell'installazione di debian(netinstall) non mi semra di aver visto quell'opzione...

comunque ho provato di tutto, a partire dal sostituire il nome del modulo o con ati o con radeon ma niente, cosi parte ma dando un fglrxinfo mi da come driver i soliti

Ad ogni modo andiamo con ordine e ri-iniziamo a fare i controlli base.
Come prima cosa, visto anche l'errore, hai nel kernel che usi i moduli AGP e DMR?

Significa che non c'è abilitata nel kernel la possibilità di vedere il config da /proc/config.gz

Prova a vedere se in /boot hai qualche file config-2.*.*
si ne ho due, uno relativo al mio vecchio kernel e uno al nuovo(il piu recente) :D

che devo fare per farli funzionare sti caspita di driver? :(

OK, adesso:

1) digita "mount" e controlla se ti appare la riga

tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)

2) vai in /lib/modules/fglrx (questa directory dovresti averla dopo l'installazione dei driver ATI)

- vai in build_mod/2.6.x
- digita "make clean"
- quindi "cd ../firegl_agpgart"
- digita "make clean"
- "cd .."
- "./make.sh"

ATTENZIONE: questo e' il comando che "costruisce" il modulo fglrx da caricare.
Per costruire il modulo devi avere intallati i sorgenti del kernel che stai usando.
Questo punto potrebbe fallire: con i kernel recenti infatti i sorgneti di questi moduli vanno patchati (ti invito per l'ennesima volta a leggere il famoso post che ho linkato qualche messaggio fa, se ancora non lo avessi fatto). Preoccupati solo degli errori: e' normale che la compilazione di dia una montagna di warning.

- se non hai errori:
cd ..
./make_install.sh

A questo punto hai installato i moduli. Ma devi anche preoccuparti del file di configurazione di X.
Supponendo che sia in /etc/X11 per prima cosa fai una copia di sicurezza di quello attuale:

cd /etc/X11
cp xorg.conf xorg.conf.SICUREZZA

ed ora usa il programmino di ATI "aticonfig" per modificare il tuo xorg.conf in modo da abilitare i driver di ATI. Per fare questo:

aticonfig --initial

Poi, vai ad editare il file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Se gia' non ci fosse aggiungi la sezione:

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

ATTENTO: potrebbero anche esserci righe di commento che io non ho riportato.

Questa sezione serve per far si' che l'uso del DRI sia per tutti gli utenti.

Salva quindi xorg.conf e prova un reboot e poi a far partire X.

Intanto fai queste prove.

mi si blocca sempre al make install :(

ecco quello che ho fatto, è andato tutto bene fino a li dove è apparso il solito errore

Ora sono al lavoro quindi non posso controllare, tuttavia non ricordavo COSI' TANTI warning riguardanti l'AGP.

Per quanto riguarda questi controlla se, per qualche assurdo motivo, tu non abbia DISABILITATI nel kernel le parti che riguardano l'AGP: solito modo: guarda nel file /boot/config-versione-kernel come sono le stringhe che contengono la scritta "AGP", dovresti avere qualcosa di simile:

CONFIG_AGP=m
CONFIG_AGP_ALI=m
CONFIG_AGP_ATI=m
CONFIG_AGP_AMD=m
CONFIG_AGP_AMD64=m
CONFIG_AGP_INTEL=m
CONFIG_AGP_NVIDIA=m
CONFIG_AGP_SIS=m
CONFIG_AGP_SWORKS=m
CONFIG_AGP_VIA=m
CONFIG_AGP_EFFICEON=m

Ad ogni modo SICURAMENTE ti mancano un po' di patch sui sorgenti presenti in /lib/modules/fglrx, quello veramente importante riguarda la sostituzione di "verify_area" con "access_ok", questo potrebbe far si' che per il tuo sistema risulti impossibile caricare correttamente fglrx!
Mi spiace dirti pero' che al momento non ho con me la mia installazione, quindi non posso dirti esattamente quale sia il file in cui fare la modifica (mi sembra build_mod/firegl_agp/firegl_wrap.c) e come (mi sembra sostituzione di "verify_area" con "access_ok").

niente, non va neanche cosi :muro:
puo darsi che la mia scheda video non sia supportata...
mi pare di ricordare che è una ati mobility radeon igp ma non ricordo che numero...
come posso vedere con precisione che scheda è? dubito pero sia questo perchè il portatile non è vecchissimo(meno di due anni).

altrimenti potrei provare ad installare i vecchi driver, meglio di niente...

Uhm... per la versione della scheda non credo: io quella procedura l'ho usata recentemente per un vecchio portatile con ATI Mobility 9200 (e per il mio che ha una mobility x700).

Ci sono ancora un paio di variabili di ambiente (ci cui pero' non ricordo i nomi) che possono avere influenza ed anche un conflitto con le librerie Mesa (queste ultime pero' non dovrebbero causare l'errore che hai tu ma solo la mancanza del reale utilizzo dei driver accelerati di ATI).

Appena possibile ti scrivo qualcosa di piu'.

Uhm... per la versione della scheda non credo: io quella procedura l'ho usata recentemente per un vecchio portatile con ATI Mobility 9200 (e per il mio che ha una mobility x700).

se non funziona neanche in quel modo potrei provare con i driver precedenti? quali sono quelli usciti appena prima e funzionavano bene?

Allora, le variabili di mbiente sono:

LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH che deve contenere la directory dove sono i file

fglrx_dri.so
atiogl_a_dri.so
linux/libfglrxdrm.so

Nella mia distribuzione, che e' a 64 bit, e' impostata come:


root@krypto:~# echo $LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH
/usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/dri/:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri


e poi

LD_LIBRARY_PATH

che deve contenere le direcotry dove sono memorizzati

libGL.so.*
libaticonfig.a
libfglrx_*.*

Nella mia SLAMD ho:


echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/lib64:/usr/X11R6/lib64:/usr/local/lib64:/usr/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib64:/usr/X11R6/lib


Puoi inoltre vedere cosa ha installato/tentato di installare il rpogramma di ATI guardando la directory

/usr/share/fglrx

Ad esempio, nel file "drv.list" c'e' l'elenco dei file che sono stati installati.
Interessante e' anche il file "fglrx-install.log" che mostra gli errori che ci sono stati nella prima installazione.

Per la domanda sulle versioni precedenti: anche la versione precedente ha lo stesso tipo di installazione. Secondo me ti conviene al max cercare con google una guida specifica per la tua distribuzione.

la prima directory della prima variabile non esiste nel mio computer, nella seconda sono contenuti i seguenti file


slash@debian:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri$ ls
atiogl_a_dri.so i810_dri.so mga_dri.so r200_dri.so sis_dri.so
fglrx_dri.so i915_dri.so r128_dri.so radeon_dri.so tdfx_dri.so


quindi manca il terzo che hai detto.

nella seconda variabile invece sono contenuti due dei tre file nella prima directory e 3 su 3 nella seconda(se il terzo file a cui ti riferisci è libfglrx_dm.a o libfglrx_dm.so.1.0, visto che non so se ho capito bene)

EDIT: alla fine del log che mi hai detto c'è scritto

Ciao a tutti, è da gg che sto tentanto di installare con successo i driver ati per debian....visto che c'ero all'inizio ho fatto na ricerca con synaptic e ho trovato i driver ati per la mia distro (debian unstable) , sl che poco prima di scaricarli mi dice che xserver-xorg-core deve essere maggiore di 1.0.9.9 o qlcsa di simile....che posso fare ? :D tnx :D
