Postate qui le novitÓ introdotte nello sviluppo del kernel.

Linux utilizza 3 tabelle di paginazione per la gestione della memoria virtuale. Questo schema limita, per motivi tecnici, l'indirizzamento dei processi su x86-64 a 512 GB.
E' stata proposta l'introduzione di una quarta tabella, per poter arrivare a 128 TB di indirizzi virtuali:

Nota: queste tabelle gestiscono gli indirizzi virtuali dei programmi, non la memoria fisica indicizzabile dal sistema. Ad esempio su x86 a 32 bit gli indirizzi virtuali sono 4 GB, e la memoria fisica massima gestibile Ŕ 64 GB.

E' finalmente uscita la versione 2.6.9 del kernel.

Chi ha problemi a compilarla, dovrebbe applicare le seguenti patch:

DESCRIPTION:
Richard Hart has reported a vulnerability in the Linux Kernel, which
can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of
Service).

The vulnerability is caused due to an integer underflow error within
the iptables firewall logging rules. This can be exploited to crash a
vulnerable system via a specially crafted IP packet.

Successful exploitation requires that firewalling is enabled.

SOLUTION:
Update to version 2.6.8 or later.
